Believe it or not, straightening the crooked nose can be one of the most challenging procedures facing a rhinoplasty surgeon. Certainly the procedure will require straightening your deviated septum, but exactly how and through what incisions really is dependent on the extent of your "deformity" and the skill of your surgeon. When i counsel patients about this surgery, my discussion usually includes opening the nose (external rhinoplasty approach), correcting the deviated septum, the possibility of cartilage "spreader grafts"- either uni or bilateral and at times the possibility of removing the septum completely from the nose, straightening it, and then re-inserting it into the nose - a rather drastic but effective method for correcting a severely crooked/deformed nose (aka an extra-corporal septoplasty). Whether your nasal bones require fracturing or not also depends on your anatomical findings. Sometimes the nasal bones themselves don't require any work. Do your homework: make sure your surgeon is facile with all the procedures mentioned here otherwise you may end up with a major bill and a nose which is still crooked!
