Certainly! Microneedling would be a great treatment for this scar. For scars with more surface area, we would also recommend RF microneedling and CO2. However, due to the small surface area of this scar, as well as the area it is located, microneedling would be your best bet. Both techniques are valid, obviously the smile movement allows the provider to isolated the platysma muscle bands that require treatment. When a muscle is in active contraction the tissue is more dense and needle meets more resistance and can dissect the tissue more on a microscopic level which can result in more pain and inflammation after the injection as you are describing. Sometimes constant engagement of an injected muscle is needed to ensure proper site of injection. Usually the band can be easily held and injected when relaxed after isolated by the provider without much difficulty. The pain should hopefully be fairly self limited and you should not have any significant injury from that technique. Certainty you should give the injector some feedback on your discomfort and be sure to follow up if you have any persistent pain at the injection site.
