Hi the answer to this will be dicided by the patient having received full disclosure about all options of repair following Mohs surgery.
I tend to only use second intent healing (healing on own) where it is on the scalp or is very small and the final cosmetic result will be acceptable.
Always ensure your surgeon can offer you all options from local flap repair, skin graft and also second intent. If second intent is the only option as why!

As a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon the answer to any patient with a basal cell carcinoma on the central face is to always go with Mohs as time and time again I see patients who opted for the alternative and end up with a recurrence of the bcc. Mohs will allow the smallest scar and allow any scar to be placed in the natural shadow lines of the face. Hope this helps

The Hughes flap has taken well. The redness should fade away within the first year. A revision could be consider after this point but any further surgery may also lead to redness for several months

Hi,

Topical minoxidil should be applied through the scalp 2x a day. It works well for most but most be continued to maintain any subjective improvement. In those people thst find it doesn't work oral minoxidil is a great option. Have a think about this. All the best. Dr Toby
