At home teeth whitening. What can I use to protect my gum against the whitening gel?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Vaseline is a good idea but Vitamin  E oil is better. You can find it at the pharmacy or at Walmart. Use a Qtip to apply it only to the gums before and more importantly after whitening. Are you using trays? Maybe they don't fit well or maybe you are using too much gel. You need a very small amount of gel only on the surface that touches the front of the teeth.

Gingivectomy and veneers or just veneers? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Depending what do you want about your smile. Gingivectomy or so called :smile lift" will make your teeth longer and if you want  straight, perfect teeth you can do veneers after that.

Can I get away w/ just Veneers instead of gum contouring and Veneers? Added 4 photos that my original post didn't have. (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Find a dentist that can use laser to reshape your gums. Don't be afraid of the healing because you are diabetic. You will heal just fine. Don't let anybody convince you to do a scalpel surgery on your gums. You will heal slow and develop a scar tissue and its going to be worst. Veneers are an option only after reshaping the gums, so called "smile lift" and can't substitute for gum reshaping and they are more invasive and way more expensive. Good luck!

Root canal was necessary after getting two veneers 1.5 years ago. I never had treatment and had no problems. Should I worry?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
You don't have to worry , you have to do something. Visit a dentist and have an Xr taken to see the root of the tooth for possible infection. After an acute abscess it is quite  possible for the infection to become chronic, meaning you still have an infection without having discomfort. If it is determined that this is the case having root canal done is the way to go if you don't want to loose the tooth. If the chronic infection is not treated it can cause root resorption and/or resorption of the bone around the root of the tooth.
In some  cases the acute infection can subside after the antibiotic and and actually heal. If the nerve of the tooth survive its all good, and if it does not it may die and the canal calcify. The only symptom in this cases is darkening of the tooth.

I'm unhappy with my gummy smile. Should I get gum contouring, if so how much would it cost? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Leave them alone! From what I see in the photo your gums seems to be fine and your teeth with proper length,  but your upper lip appear short because we can see the bone of the jaw not only the gums. Surgery in not very likely to help much.

Can my teeth be fixed/remineralized? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It is obvious from the photo that you have  advanced decay (cavities) on the front teeth and the only way to fix them is with bonded fillings. Diet and mineralization treatment can prevent only small cavities that are still into the enamel.

Price of tooth bonding or fillings?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It is hard to quote something that you have not seen in person. Dental bonding, and dentistry in general is a service not a product so the prices  will be very different in every dental office. get couple of consultations and estimates and you will get the idea what it will cost in your case to have that bonding done. Go by your gut feeling which dentist you trust and feel comfortable more with.

Which is best for front four teen, veneers or crowns? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
it all depend on the condition of the teeth and your bite to determine what is best. The veneers can be considered partial crowns depending on the preparation design. The best advise I can give you is to get a second even third opinion.

Can emax veneers be shaved down if thick enough?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Great choice to go with E max veneers! Zirconia can not be bonded like the E max.
Ideally you dont want to shave down the veneers already bonded to the teeth because you can't have that perfect look as with lab made veneers. Small adjustment can be done and polished nicely but shaving two front veneers to make them thinner can be risky. I have done it before but always advise the patient that the veneers can crack or chip or not being able to achieve the desired look. I will tell the patient that we can try, but be prepared to make new ones if something not desirable happens. If patient is happy with the result then quite nice polishing can be done with a lot of patients and attention to details on the part of the dentist.
Hope that helps!

Does medical insurance pay for partials?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
No, medical insurance does not pay for dental procedures.  In California there is a state program called Medical and they started  covering some dental procedures after years of not covering anything dental. I don't know if other states have similar programs.
