QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Which procedure is better - iLipo or liposuction?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
I find that the names of all the procedures with "Lipo" in them can be confusing.  Liposuction involves the physical removal of fat in a measured amount to keep it safe.  It has the advantage of "sculpting" where the doctor can take a little from here and more from there to help the patient achieve the result they choose.  The disadvantage is that it is invasive with some of the typical surgical complications like swelling, bruising, infection, etc.  For many years, it was the most common outpatient procedure which means it has been improved over the years for better results and less downtime.

iLipo involves a non-invasive laser to cause a chemical reaction in fat cells triggering them to release their contents.  Basically the fat cell shrinks from a grape to a raisin.  We have combined this technology to further increase the results by adding another non-invasive device with radiofrequency.  The resulting technology is called iLipoXcell.  The radiofrequency shrinks the fat cell further by tightening the connective tissue around fat cells, shrinking the raisin even smaller.  No food 2 hours before the treatment and cardiovascular exercise for 30 minutes after improve the results.  With the exercise after, the body is able to remove the fat cell contents from the body answering the original question.  It is not a weight loss procedure but rather shrinks the circumference of the area treated so the patient's clothes fit much looser.  One of our patients lost 4 clothes' sizes.
