Porcelain Veneers
Q:
I would like to get veneers to make my smile fuller. Would I be a good candidate for Veneers? (photos)
Veneers are a wonderful cosmetic treatment option for those looking to change the color, shape and contour of their adult smile. But you would never "build a house on a crappy foundation." You can not diagnose treatment options based on photographs alone, you would want to make sure your oral health is in tip top shape and there is no underlying infection going on below the gums. After you have a "clean bill of health" of your gums and supporting structures we move on to the best treatment option for you. If your perio status is within normal limits then we would send out what we call a wax-up. A wax up is a lab design of what your smile could potentially look like. We use this model to make the temporaries that you will be wearing for a couple of weeks after we prepare the teeth for veneers. Having a wax up allows you to test drive your potential shape and size of the veneers you will have made. This allows you to make any changes before the permanent ones are made. One other pre-op recommendation is having out patients do an IN OFFICE whitening treatment. In our office, we apply the fee of the whitening to your veneer case fee if you decide to move forward with veneers so you essentially get a free whitening treatment done. In your particular case, I see you've already stated you had gum surgery done but based on your smile line (how much gum tissue you can see when you smile the biggest) I would consider having another gingivectomy performed. Veneers are the instant gratification treatment for someone who is unwilling to wait for orthodontically moved teeth without taking down a ton of tooth structure. Hope this helps and good luck!
