QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Is my tooth eligible for re-bonding? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It seems on photo the amount of fractured incisal edge is not much, therefore I am sure, a skilled dentist can remove the old stained incisal filling out and place the new composite filling and make the line also disappear nicely

Should I have #19 removed or go with a root canal and crown? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

of course, whether to save or extract this tooth, all depends on multiple factors, your intention, cost, time, age and the condition of upper teeth in opposing arch...

this tooth has large decay extending below gum line which for the purpose of restorations very likely will need crown lengthening /gum surgery after a successful root canal and a great crown could provide some years of service for you. obviously it has guarded prognosis .

What causes crowns to fall off and smell like burned hair?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Please be aware there is multiple reason for your crown failure. The following are exact reasons to this failure

1.The substructure tooth needs to be long enough to hold a crown and if you have short clinical crown, the procedure called crown lengthening procedure gum surgery will be a great way to lengthen the short clinical crown

2.The other reason, the crown needs to be perfect fitting with sealed margin ,the crown would fail if it leaks and cement under the crown washes out and most likely will cause food and bacteria remaining under the crown and not only will end with dental decay under the crown it will cause bad mouth odor as a result of bacteria growth as well.

3.The crown tooth needs to be in perfect occlusion, if not the traumatic bite may cause loosening of the crown.

22 year old - 4 yrs ago I chipped #8 tooth and got bonding. Should do a crown/veneer/nothing for aesthetics? (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

dear Patient,

1.i would recommend to get an xray make sure health of the nerve.

2.discoloration is an inherent to composite fillings/bondings so you can get the bonding redone and before hand it is good idea to get whiter brighter teeth get whitening in office and then proceed to get your bonding replaced at a later time

3.ultimately you can always get a veneer for better esthetics result

I think I need to get a small filling. Will this interfere with me getting my braces off in two weeks?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

for sure, the braces will be determined by orthodontist when to come off but it has nothing to do with your cavity . I suggest to get your filling as soon as possible

If a temp crown is seated too high, can I incur damage by not going in to have it fixed?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

yes for sure I suggest to see your dentist to file the crown down, since it will cause damage to your nerve of tooth causing pain and later may need root canal if stays in traumatic occlusion for long time

Crown put on over a year ago. I'm 7.5 months pregnant that tooth is getting sensitive and painful.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

well during late months in pregnancy you may get an xray to r/o any infection.

it is possible following a crown placement the pulp gets too stressed and eventually will need a root canal. you need to see a dentist to figure it out

Wondering if it's possibly to lengthen my front teeth since I have ground down my smile. Is bonding or veneers doable? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It all the depends what is the cause of your shortened front upper teeth, are you grinding your teeth?, in that case you got to get a night guard that explains why you feel your bite on back molars has changed.

Another issue the way your teeth comes together is important because the veneers may fracture if you bite incorrectly, in that case ortho may help to fix correct alignment first.

Also lengthening of teeth are possible before you get veneers.

Best,

Dr Shoffet

Pain in molar that has an old root canal and old crown, what could the problem be?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Be aware root canals can fail ,you definitely need to see your dentist to take x-ray and evaluate the tooth, they may place you on antibiotics and the pain goes away for  some time but worst case is because most of pain on old root canals means you may have a cracked tooth in that case the tooth not savable and end up in extraction

Concerned about open spaces in my mouth after implant surgery.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

if you are getting implants placement ,your dentist can pre plan for this and make a temporary appliance for the purpose of esthetics such as a retainer /flipper or a fixed option such as some times a special Maryland bridge can be fabricated prior to surgery, so right after implants placed in jaw bone you are able to leave the office with some temporary appliance either fixed or removable. please keep in mind generally the surgeon prefers no pressure be applied to newly inserted implants , therefore the appliance (fixed or removable )will be relieved for passive fit.

In regards to your root canal, I would suggest get the root canal ,since can lead to further infection or complication or even loss of your tooth, root canal should not be postponed. The final crown over root canal treated tooth can be matching with restorations over implant.

good luck
