There are variations in the post op diet based on a center's experience and consensus. The point is that you pick one and stick with it. And the best one is the one your bariatric surgeon and dietician have more experience with. It is a matter of discipline and following the instruction in order to get the best results.

I just had vsg and my surgeon said to be on clear liquids for two weeks then full liquids for two weeks. And so on. I feel this is so excessive . I see other surgeons who allow puréed food 5 days post op. Why is there such a difference in the post op diet? Is there a medical reasoning for this? If I eat puréed food sooner will I damage my stomach? Is this serious? Thank you. Just having a hard time

Why is there such a difference in post op diet?

You can definitely benefit from bariatric surgery. Although not perfect, surgery has shown the most sustainable results. Especially with someone so determined who can loose 70 pounds with diet and exercise. I would offer surgery to such a patient and share the success.

I’ve had success losing 70+ lbs with diet only but have been unable to maintain. BMI is 46. High cholesterol and blood pressure controlled by meds.

What is the better surgery option for 59 year old female with 110-120 lbs to lose? Maintenance of weight is bigger struggle.

The type and location of hernia is very important. This is a complex situation and needs review of your work up.

Hello! I have a hernia that have a measurement 4cm. My doctor is telling me that they don’t want to do the gastric sleeve on me do to the hernia but I really want so do that over the bypass. I get the surgery free but I am willing to pay just to have the sleeve with a doctor who can repair my hernia and do the sleeve with good results. Is that possible or is my doctor right for telling me not to do the sleeve?

Gastric sleeve has shown great results for sustainable weight loss. No surgery is a magic bullet and weight regain is always a concern. I do not recommend travel medicine for any surgery but specifically bariatric, because the work up before and the follow up after is crucial to your long term success. I am sure you can find great surgeons but surgery is not the only component of success. You would qualify per most insurances in the US if you have any obesity related problems (high blood pressure, Diabetes, ...) Also there are cash deals that can be considered.

I am not aware of any contraindication. However, similar symptoms can occur after bariatric surgery due to dehydration (more commonly) or other reasons. I suggest that you start with your primary physician and maybe a cardiologist before deciding on bariatric surgery. Dehydration can definitely exacerbate your symptoms and you will need to be optimized before, and be super vigilant about hydration after surgery.

I am 22 years old and been overweight/obese my whole life pretty much. I currently weigh 300 pounds and I cannot lose the weight while eating healthy and working out. I do suffer from POTS syndrome so it makes it very difficult for me to work out the way i'd like without feeling ill or passing out. I'm looking into the sleeve and just want to make sure it's the right procedure for me.

Are surgeries have some risks, however, baratric surgery is among the safest major gastrointestinal ones. To exactly know what happens with a specific case, a lot of details are needed. It can be unrelated or related to surgery. It can also be due to existing comorbidities. Most complications can be triggered by a major surgery and not be specific to a sleeve or a bypass. The most common cause of death is actually weight related which is blood clots that can happen in an obese patient that has major surgery. Defining the risk and minimizing it before surgery is key.

I have personally not observed that in my patients. It could have a psychological component of replacing one habit (food related) with a new habit (alcohol). I recommend a therapist to see if behavioral modifications can help you overcome this situation.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Mansour for weight loss surgery. From start to finish he showed that he really cared about what was best for me. I had a revision from band to rny (bypass).
