I began searching for a surgeon because I had experienced massive weight loss (286 lb to 180 lb), resulting in significant loose skin on my trunk area. I wanted to have the surgery done within my city & began researching online for surgeons who advertised experience working on men. I only encountered two of these surgeons in the entire Memphis metro area & scheduled appointments with both of them. My first consultation was with Dr. Lachica, then I had a second consultation with the other surgeon 5 days later. The difference between the 2 consultations was extreme, & it was clear that Dr. Lachica was the right person to do my surgery. First, he had a portfolio of his male surgical cases to review with me. At my other consultation, I was only shown photos of darker skinned women as examples despite being told verbally the surgeon did cases on men regularly. Second, Dr Lachica took all his own photographs with meticulous detail. He asked me what my primary concerns were & asked if a scribe could sit in to document everything in case he missed something, which reinforced to me how much listening to the patient meant to him. He worked to show me how he determines scar placement, & my initial consultation was around 90 minutes. At the other consult, I waited 70 min after my appointment to see the surgeon & he spent less than 30 in my actual consultation. What struck me most during the consultations was how hard Dr Lachica worked to make sure anything he recommended to me matched an evidence based approach as well as addressed my question own concerns. I only received opinion based recommendations at my other consultation. I asked for a follow up consultation with Dr Lachica to ask some final questions that came up after seeing the second surgeon. He made time in his schedule & was professional at every turn. He answered the questions by talking directly to me & not speaking down to me at all. He told me that his surgical approach was based upon scientific evidence with some of his own experiences thrown in, but that he really wanted me to understand that everything he was recommended to me was supported by evidence. During the follow up consultation, he pulled up the images he took of me & had already mocked up a surgical plan, all before I had even officially agreed for him to do the surgery. At my final preop appointment where I was marked, Dr. Lachica continued to be as meticulous as possible. He didn’t just arbitrarily draw on me where he was going to operate. Instead he measured & insured everything was level as perfect as possible. Then the day of the surgery, he did a few adjustments after studying my photos again over the weekend. My surgery experience was incredibly smooth. I had the surgery at the GASC surgery center that is attached to his clinic office. I arrived at 8 am, was taken back within 5 min, & the process began. The last I remember, it was around 845 & the anesthesiologist was chatting me with about something & then I was out. I woke up & Dr Lachica told me everything went great, the surgery took 6 hours, & they needed me to make sure I could be alert enough to go home. I cannot express how professional & meticulous Dr Lachica & his entire staff were through the whole process. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering a plastic surgeon. From a cost perspective, I felt his rate was fair given how much time he was spending with me. His rate was lower than the other surgeon I saw, who also told me he “couldn’t do a surgery that took longer than 4 hours.” Dr Lachica mentioned that he felt men needed more time & care in their procedures because of differences in skin, fascia, & muscle composition. I am only four days postoperative currently, but I am confident that once all the swelling subsides, I will be very happy with the results.
I had surgery with Dr.Lachia on 10/6/20 after losing over 120 pounds and having 3 children I was left with excess skin in my tummy area that hung like a apron. Dr.Lachica and staff took great care of me and I’m forever grateful. He’s really diligent about his work and care for his patients. He even called once I was discharged to ensure everything was okay. I’m so happy with my results and my new tummy. He’s given me my confidence back!
For a few years I have been unhappy with my dimpling. I saw a physician and he recommended dr. Lachica. After Meeting him I felt very confident with him as my doctor. The nursing staff built my confidence more. Pidge definitely helped me with the process.
Dr. Lachica and his staff were very professional, courteous and informative. I generally dread the doctor office however, I felt comfortable and they put me at ease answered all my questions and helped to quell my anxiety about the pain.
Getting a tummy tuck was the best decision I ever made. Dr. Lachica made me feel very comfortable and took his time with me. Explained everything thoroughly. I looked elsewhere but the moment I met him I felt he was the one I should choose. The care given was 100%. 2 days after surgery I was already in love with my body again. I’m more confident and my self esteem is sky high. Thank you to University Plastic Surgeons and Dr. Lachica. I would recommend him to anyone!
The experience was great. Dr Lachica goes into great detail. Day of surgery was great and very informative. Very friendly and helpful. My lip turned out beautiful after the cancer was removed I couldn’t be happier.
He is a great doctor, takes the time to explain everything. He has done my breast lift n reduction, n extended tummy tuck. I could not be happier! He changed my life! I highly recommend him n tell everyone how great he is!
After thinking about the procedure for a long time I’m so glad I decided to get it done. The recovery was slow but so far I’m very pleased with my results. I’m sure the results will just get better with time.
It was something I wanted to do when it was time for it to be done. I finally decided it was my time. I researched and found university plastic surgeons and got Dr. Lachica, gave myself 5 months to think about it. And decided now was the time. The result was better than I expected. My pain and bruising was not an issue and I’m so happy with the result.
My chin had bothered me my whole life, and when my fiancé asked me to marry him it put into perspective the lack of confidence I had because of having no profile. Dr Lachica changed that for me and I will be grateful the rest of my life for that.
The most effective brachioplasty ("arm lift") requires an incision long enough down the arm to remove as much skin as necessary. Most patients who are a great candidate for this procedure have skin that hangs down like "batwings" when they extend their arms out to the sides. These patients typically have lots of loose skin and minimal fat. Patients with skin folds located closer to the armpit and not so much toward the elbow may be appropriate for "short scar brachioplasty." Additional loose skin pulled toward the armpit and removed with a short L-shaped extension here. In general, a scar going from elbow to armpit and ending in an L-shaped extension in the armpit will remove the maximum amount of skin and provide the most tightening. Skin is pulled and tightened award the inside of the arm and from elbow to armpit. The scar is hidden on the inside of the upper arm/armpit and is invisible from the front, sides, and back. I stopped doing the "T-incision" a long time ago because it did not result in more skin removal compared to the "L." Patients who have an excessive amount of arm fat are candidates for a "deflation procedure" with liposuction prior to a brachioplasty.
