A few years ago I was told by a top plastic surgeon if I wanted to deal with my excess chin/neck fat, I'd need a whole facelift, which I didn't want. So I was thrilled to hear about Kybella. I went to their website to find an experienced doctor in my area. Day 1: Had my first injections yesterday. Doctor gave me 10 or 12 after applying Lidocaine cream and giving me a Lidocaine injection. That helped a lot with discomfort from the injections. Also it seems to me the needles used for Kybella are very thin, so the injection process was just fine. Afterwards the nurse gave me a small ice pack and I rested for 5 min. with the ice on my chin, before leaving. There was a little bleeding from each injection site, which stopped before I had left the doctor's office. As expected my chin/neck was bright red when I left. The actual treatment was about 20 min. and I was out the door in an hour. I was glad not to have to go back to work, because as the Lidocaine wore off I did feel some discomfort, some burning and numbness. I took 2 Advil as suggested by my doctor, which took care of the discomfort just fine. Spent the rest of the day icing my chin and napping. Today my chin is large, swollen and numb but no pain. I'm icing every hour or so, in hopes of keeping the swelling at bay. Also eating fresh chunks of pineapple, which has Bromelian in it (pineapple juice does not have it, so you need to find fresh pineapple). Bromelian is a great anti-inflammatory. The $1350 cost included $200 evaluation and the treatment. Dr. Glogau was part of the clinical trials so he has a lot of experience with Kybella, which is important to me. He knew exactly where to inject and WHERE NOT to inject it. I wouldn't want to be injected by someone just learning about Kybella. Day 2: I could work today but decided not to because of the "frog neck" look I have. Skin is still a bit hot and still numb but this was expected. Updated on 10 Jul 2015: After Day 3 I pretty much forgot about my neck, except if I touched it, it was numb. On Day 3 I did have bruising which I covered with makeup some of the bruising was yelllowish and some was bluish. On Day 7 I had a quick check up by the doctor and all was well. On Day 8, today, it's still a tiny bit numb but nothing else. My neck doesn't look smaller but one treatment isn't supposed to do the trick. I'll get my 2nd round of injections in 3 weeks. Updated on 3 Sep 2015: I had my 3rd Kybella treatment today. I am very overweight, so I suspected I'd need at least 3 treatments. After my 2nd treatment, one side of my neck was fuller than the other side. It wasn't highly noticeable but the doctor agreed this a.m. it was a bit lopsided too. Maybe because this is my 3rd round, it seems a bit easier. After the last 2 rounds I took Advil after the treatment, but today I didn't feel the need to. I will see him again in 4 weeks for a f/up... I'm hoping 3 rounds was the charm, but we'll see. Yes, it's expensive but surgery would've been loads more with more risks. Please find a doctor who has had a lot of experience with Kybella... yes, this is a new treatment and it might be hard in your area to find a doctor with experience. Then wait until you can be seen by someone with experience! Things can go wrong and if the doctor hits a nerve there can be damage. I have great peace of mind knowing my doctor has treated many patients and he now is teaching other doctors how to use Kybella correctly. Updated on 6 Oct 2015: I just had my 4th set of Kybella injections last week... so haven't really seen the full effect of them yet. I had a lot of fat to kill, so I'm not surprised it's taking longer than for others... it is working and I am glad to be doing it. It is expensive but the risks from facelift/liposuction are so daunting, I'm glad to pay it.
