Been thinking about this for years, so glad I finally did it. I am almost two months post-op and even the woman who does my facials says she can hardly see the scars. The surgery was performed by local plastic surgeon, in the hospital, under "conscious sedation". It took about 45 minutes. My eyes watered a lot for about one day following the surgery, which was the main discomfort I experienced. (I had Lasik several years ago, which may have made my corneas more sensitive to the protective lens they put on my eyes during the surgery) Other than that, there is virtually no pain unless I forgot and tugged/rubbed near the incisions. One eye had significant bruising that lasted a good two weeks. The other eye had minor bruising, easily covered with makeup or sunnies after 3 or 4 days. Dr says I still have swelling that will continue to go down over the next 6 months or so. I'm already very happy, and it just gets better. Updated on 20 Oct 2013: Here is an updated photo of my upper bleph.
I left this appointment feeling shocked and angry. Dr Havard was quite rude, and seems to say whatever comes into his head, regardless of how inappropriate it may be. I understand talking about the experiences of other patients to give context for what to expect, but the way he talked about some of his former patients was awful. For example, I saw him to inquire about a breast reduction, and during our appointment he told me a story about a woman who he performed some sort of weight removal surgery on. He said that her stomach was “so big” that they had to rig something up above the operating table to hold her stomach up, and that she gained the weight back years later. He suspected that her weight gain was caused by sweets, and that “if she had to put something in her mouth, it could have at least been baby carrots or something.” This was just one of the several inappropriate things he said during our consultation--I got the feeling that he saw me less as a person, and more as an object that could use fixing. Do not see this man if you are a plus-sized person.
I originally trained with this technique, but use other approaches now that give me better control.
