There will be post operate swelling for up to 6 weeks after the surgery. Once it is not infected or a hematoma ( collection of blood below the skin) has developed. If it has the chin will not only be swollen but it will be red and painful and you will feel unwell.

I had a chin reduction a week ago, my chin is very much larger and more manly. I can't smile like I used to, and my mouth won't open all the way. Is this temporary? Will my smile come back normal?

This depends on what are your concerns. If you want your teeth alignment and position corrected, then an orthodontist can correct this, however if you want both your teeth and your upper and lower jaw relationship to be corrected then you will need combine treatment by an orthodontist and a Maxillofacial surgery. You will need dental and facial analysis and then treatment planning. Orthognathic surgery is certainly an option.

I am very confused because I have been to multiple orthodontic consultations and every one says something different as far as my treatment. Some say I need jaw surgery and some say I don't. I am unhappy with how my jaw grew in vertical and my face is asymmetrical. I also have to strain to keep my mouth closed and I can't breathe out of my nose comfortably. Also, can Invisalign be combined with jaw surgery rather than brackets ?

I understand that asymmetrical faces are normal and Im okay with mine. To a point. The problem being that my jaw makes my face look like its curving. I think it has something to do with the way I was born but I read somewhere that sometimes its because of growth spurts. If you look in the picture it looks like my right law line is shorter than my left and significantly smaller. Is it possible to fix this? I heard about bone grafting and was wondering if it might be okay in this situation. Thanks

Your face will need to be analysed and you will need to identify which areas of the jaw you want reduced. Your occlusion will need to be also analysed. Once this is done, then a decision can be made as to best reduce the appearance of your jaw. You should see an experience Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and an orthodontist in a joint clinic.&nbsp;

Dear surgeons, some surgeons have advised me via the mail to do a jaw reduction surgery and chin contouring. I would like to get a smaller Looking face. Each surgeon will have their area of expertise and sub speciality. You will find that an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon will perform more jaw related surgeries and usually opt to augment the jaw by moving the bones rather than placing an implant. Ive called about 20 plastic surgeons in and around the Houston area and all of them but one said they don't know what I'm talking about. I have a consultation with the surgeon that does offer the surgery two weeks from now, but I am just curious to know why is it so unheard of? Ive been to a few plastic surgeons who offer chin implants but when I ask about jaw augmentation as well, they look at me crazy or dismiss me and escort me out of the office. Is it unsafe, or just un-popular?

With ageing comes volume loss. Dermal fillers is a safe option without the surgical risk, but it is temporary and needs repeating. Implants is an option but you will need to discuss the risk and surgery with an experienced facial surgeon.

I have noticed my lower face has become scrawny looking, which is giving me an aged appearance. I have attached picture a of what I looked liked 10 years ago and how I look today. I have lost volume in my upper face as well. What will work best for upper and lower face?

It is important that you discuss this with your surgeon. Advancement of the maxilla could cause elevation of the nasal tip, widening of the alar base and changes to the nasolabial angle. The maxillary movement as well as the thickness of your soft tissues and the appearance of your nose presently will also determine the extent of these changes.<br>Speak to your surgeon about 3D planning and showing a simulation of the soft tissue changes with surgery. It is not 100 percent accurate but can give an idea of the changes.

I have an open bite, but I will also be getting my upper jaw (top row of teeth) moved forward to a small degree if I have surgery. My question is will this push my nose upward and increase the nasolabial angle? That's the only thing I fear because I do not want any change in my nose. Thank you.

My wedding is coming up in 16 days, and I'm considering getting tear trough fillers for the first time. Do you think it is a unwise decision to experiment with the filler so close to my big day? I would recommend dental and skeletal analysis with an orthodontist and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Looks like you may need mandibular advancement after further orthodontic treatment. A sliding advancement genioplasty is also a compromised option.

i dont really like what the orthodontist did with the camouflage treatment. still have weak chin/jaws, when i smile my mouth looks crooked and the chin tilts to the left. i really think maxillo mandibular advancement would benefit me. what was done. 1 premolar removed + palatal expander and 5 years with braces.Also could undereye area/malar area be improved?

I would have the braces done and alignment and decompensation of the teeth, followed by surgery to both upper and lower jaw. The upper jaw will probably require expansion transversely. This can be done at the time of the surgery.&nbsp;

I am currently looking into having the "surgery first" method which would involve double jaw surgery to correct my open-bite and slight under-bite (only have 4 molars touching). - Should I have the SARPE surgery first to expand my upper palate and then once healed, have the double jaw surgery? Or, with the ability to slightly expand the upper palate during Lefort 1, will that be enough for my situation? - How soon after SARPE is it possible to have the double jaw surgery? Thank you!
