We have done more than 60,000 laser procedures on all skin types over the last 15 years and with that experience, I can tell you that paradoxical hair stimulation is extremely unlikely in bikini area when good amount of energy is used, as compared to face and neck. We have never seen a single paradoxical hypertrichosis (hair stimulation) in bikini area. You are all good. 

Good day! I am wondering how likely I am to develop paradoxical hypertrichosis if a laser is directly applied to areas that are not hairy but have tiny blonde vellus hairs (not intentionally, but because they happen to be right next to areas with darker hair)? Is this something you see often with no adverse effects? Or is hair growth likely to be stimulated because of this? My skin type is II-III (light skin, black hair, brown eyes, I both burn and tan). I would really appreciate your input!

Botox relaxes the muscles of expression, precisely and in a predictable manner for the right candidate for treatment. Unfortunately there is no alternative cream that can do what Botox or similar products can. Use regular skin care and just a few more weeks, everything should start rolling.

I am overdue on Botox due to non essential procedures being restricted and my forehead is looking older. What can I use to smooth out my forehead or provide an eyebrow lift in the meantime? Any temporary effect creams that do magic?

Alternative to Botox during Covid Restrictions?

The amount of redness/pinpoint depends on the depth of the micro needling done. Deeper gives more redness and you will be red and puffy for about 3 days. If its not too deep redness might only last a day. Ask your provider about the depth used at both sessions, and that might explain your situation. Its customary to go deeper when treating acne scars.

I had my second microneedling procedure on Friday and this time added PRP. I was slightly red the first day and had nearly no redness the second day and completely back to normal by day 3 which was unlike my first microneedling procedure (also with a different person than the first) 6 weeks ago. I was very red the first and second day. I just hope I got my money’s worth on the second procedure since it was double the price.

Is it normal not to be red the day following microneedling with PRP?

Any form of Botulinum toxin (Botox, Xeomin or Dysport) can be administered on the same day on different areas. Its better to have it administered on the same day so the effect can be properly monitored and spaced, hence its better to choose one provider. Botox is a simple procedure and lower part of the face is off-label and considered advanced areas. Hence any experienced physician well-versed with the anatomy of the face should be able to provide the service. Good luck!

If I get 20 units of Botox for my chin/mouth area how long do I have to wait until I can get 20 units of Xeomin for my frown lines? I only had Xeomin once, 20 units for my 11s and it's wearing off. I'm seeing a doctor for Botox for my chin (never had it before). I will go back to my original injector for Xeomin for my forehead. I don't want to overwhelm by body - last time I felt numbness everywhere in my body after Xeomin in forehead (everything went away in a few hours, I calmed myself down).

How long should I wait between Botox on chin and Xeomin for forehead?

If you have started antibiotic sometime back, it may be okay to get the lip fillers; but in general better to wait until you are better, just because of the theoretical risk of bacteria seeding the filler, considering there will be so much manipulation of a highly vascular area during the lip injections.

I’ll be getting Versa lip fillers on Tuesday. I’m taking amoxicillin for strep. Would this contradict in any way?

The most common cause for what is seen in the picture is inapropriate laser for the type of skin, or too high a power, or if the diode or IPL is used, in addition the lack of enough cooling and hand piece not being in full contact with the skin. This happened a year ago and this answer may be too late for you; but for the benefit of other, especially if you do not have a caucasian type of skin, please choose the provider carefully especially making sure they have the right laser for your skin type: in this case YAG laser is appropriate and safer.

I had a laser hair removal done (my fourth session). While driving back I felt intense burn and hot sensation. I applied Fucicort for 2 days now. Pain has reduced but I am afraid the burn marks will be permanent. I attached a picture of how it looks today (3rd day). I am of Indian origin.

For your skin type especially for bikini area only laser that us suitable is Nd YAG. This does not seem to be a treatment by Nd YAG. Please contact your physician for a regular follow up, to detect early signs of PIH. For now a combination of hydrocortisone and an antibiotic ointment would be appropriate.

I had like my 13th treatment on my bikini area today and it was horrible. The whole car ride home I was experiencing a burning pain. When I got home I noticed burn circles everywhere. The technician has preformed all of my treatments and this has never happened before. This is the first time I had a late appointment and she seemed tired, but that's not excuse. What should I do and will my skin heal normal?

Looking at your skin type it looks like the most suitable laser is Nd YAG as the skin seems to be darker type. Its almost very unusual to get these spots with YAG laser. The area also seems to be outer part of the abdomen. You can get the spots as noted above with Alexandrite, IPL or Diode which are not suitable for this type of skin, except that Diode may be used with some careful conservative settings. Its very rare in women for the outside of the abdomen to have the hair suitable for any laser treatment. Having said that YAG is the safest laser on a darker skin, it does not mean its as effective as diode or Alexandrite. Darker skin with thinner and sparse hair is the worst combination, as YAG settings will have to be very high to even begin the response, and at this high settings it also causes more pain. Some areas like outside of the abdomen in women usually tend to have very thin "baby hair" which are not suitable for treatment unless the skin is white and hence such areas are best left untreated, as there is risk of paradoxical hair stimulation. In darker skin types even with YAG in some areas you can get scabs as shown. Unfortunately with proliferation of Groupon type of deals, FDA class 4 devices (which all laser devices are) are being used by those who are non-physicians. Laser treatments have a learning curve, which takes a lot of experience especially to treat darker skin types, and it can be safely said the learning curve for using lasers is more than that of Botox and Fillers. Please use moisturizer and 1% hydrocortisone cream; strictly avoid sun exposure, use sunblcok daily, do not pick the scabs and follow with a physician that deals with laser treatments. In most cases it will subside with a favorable outcome. In some cases hypopigmentation (lightening) may result, which is more difficult to treat than hypperpigmentation (darkening). I am 6 days out from my initial treatment and still have markings down my stomach. The first few days I felt a slight burning sensation but now they look more like spots (skin is not rough like a scab). The provider said they have seen many cases &amp; mine looked promising- should go back to normal. They gave me Cicalfate &amp; said to continue keeping the skin moist. Unfortunately, my dermatologist can't see me until next week. I'm in pure panic. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

About approximately&nbsp; 5% of people get so called "Botox headache", and it seems to be more so in those who are prone to migraine.&nbsp; In our practice it is less than this number. Exact cause is not known. The headache can happen with Botox, Dysport or Xeomin form of Botulinum toxin A. The sufferers seem to be usually first time botox users. It is possible that the large frontalis muscle is relaxed and those who are used to lifting their eye brows quite frequently before the injection of Botox, interpret this "heaviness" as headache. In our experience of more than 10 years,&nbsp;these individuals, as they continue with regular Botox, this head-ache seems to not occur with time as they get used to the relaxation sensation of the muscles with "experience" while at the same time experiencing the benefits of Botox. It should rarely be the case that the cause is due to the needle touching the bone, as the Botox should be given in to the skin (intradermal) or muscles(intramuscular) where injected, if done correctly, and hence pinching and isolating the muscle to give injection precisely avoids touching the bone. Its not the same as injecting fillers. In those with recurrence of symptoms with subsequent treatments, it can be minimized by giving lesser dose in future and placing it higher. Everyone has their unique dose that will be known to your provider, as you go thru the treatments. We always do a 2 week follow-up for new patients, to assess the effectiveness and adjust the dose in future and also to optimize additional dose during this follow up. Headache lasting more than a few days, however, is more likely of migraine or other origin and not probably linked to Botox. Extra strength tylenol helps; or adding a good dose of Ibuprofen (600 mg) (unless you also had filler at the same time) will help in majority of cases. In some individuals who are new to "Botox" there is a component of "anxiety" that is also contributing to the headache. The good news is that just like the effect of Botox, the "botox headache" is also temporary and will eventually go away! Thank you for this question.

I had Botox 1 week ago and have had a horrible horrible headache for a week. My forehead feels heavy and my right eye is achy and heavy. Nothing helps! I thought Botox was supposed to eliminate headaches but this has caused a tremendous one that is relentless. Will I have to suffer for 4 months until this wears off? Dear God, that would be awful. Please help:(

Bad Headache from Botox Injections, When Will It Stop?

Conversion from Botox to Dysport is 2.5 to 3 times in terms of units. It is not clear which area was treated?&nbsp;Frown lines?&nbsp;forehead? crows feet? all?
From the picture I see some tear trough shadow which is better addressed with a filler.

I have small bruises and am swollen under the eye. If this normally? How do you know if you actually got the amount you paid for? I’m 36 and have always been happy with 28 units of Botox. He said I needed 72 units of Botox so I told him that I felt like that was to much for what I wanted to achieve. So that’s when he said I would be happier with Dysport. I know that it takes up to 7 days to see the full results but I feel like I go cheated. Thanks

Normally I get 28 IU of Botox a different doctor said I needed Dysport 180 units. How do I know I got what I paid for? (Photo)
