Hi Big teeth!. Your big problem is the protrusion of all your upper teeth. I can't diagnose your case definitively from one photograph but it appears that you might need to extract a couple of upper teeth to make enough room to move all your teeth back. Your options could be braces or Invisalign. You need to consult an orthodontic specialist.

The first thing you need to check for is contact with the upper left lateral incisor and cuspid. If there is contact then Invisalign might be a good solution but might not be cost effective. If there is no contact of these teeth with the lower dentition then trimming the retainer away from these teeth and allow them to passively erupt until they contact might be the best solution. A new retainer then would be made for the ne alignment of teeth.

I had two upper bicuspids extracted as a pre-teen for orthodontic work. The result of this was an under-developed maxilla, a long face and an open bite. I've used a homeoblock appliance for 2 years to develop the maxilla. This helped develop the arch but caused my molars to erupt further. It's not a crazy open bite in that my front teeth can touch. What non-surgical things can be done to help correct this? I've just been reading about invisalign helping in such cases - could this work for me?

The issue isn't the food debris on your teeth. The issue is having plaque on your teeth. Plaque is population of bacteria. When you eat, the bacteria eat also. They will give off nasty substances such as acids and endotoxins. It is these substances that are deleterious to your teeth and gums. If you feed these bacteria they will give off these substances for up to 240 minutes after you have eaten. It is found that if you chew sugarless chewing gum after a meal, you cut the acid production down to 20 minutes. This is because it stimulates salivary production.Saliva has two different buffering systems in it that buffers the acids plus it offers a dilutional effect that helps with the concentrations of acids and endotoxins. Add to this that the chewing gum has a plunging effect to "stir the pot!" That being said, you cannot chew chewing gum with your aligners in. I recommend to my patients that they take a few mouthfuls of water and swish 3 or 4 times before placing the aligner back in the help wash away all the food debris and dilute acids and sugars in the mouth. When you have an opportunity to brush later, seize the opportunity!

I read that brushing right after eating or drinking something other than water can be bad for teeth. How long should I wait? How can I keep my aligners in for 20-22 hours a day if I have to wait to brush?

Your case would have some challenges for the Invisalign product. The would need to be other ancillary &nbsp;mechanics needed to be used to help this case. Although I do a a lot of Invisaign cases, I would recommend fixed appliances only for the fact of trying to bring your upper left cuspid into occlusion.&nbsp;

I've been told I have severe overcrowding, and feel self conscious of it every time I smile. Occasionally I feel pain in the area around these teeth and it really is a spot I feel uncomfortable with in my appearance. I've been told I may have to get teeth removed and then get braces, but given my age would really rather not have braces. Would I be a good candidate for invisalign?

Almost anything you can do with braces, you can do with Invisalign.Go for it!

I Am 14. Can I Have Invisalign?

To place an implant into the incisor area you will need not only to move the crowns of the teeth into the the correct position but the root need to follow. In other word, you need enough space between the root of the adjacent teeth to place the implant. Retainers will tip the crowns of the teeth but will do very little to upright the roots.

	Braces are the best and wisest choice. It will be important for your orthodontist and the person placing the implants to communicate together.

I have a front tooth missing and I wanted to know if its possible to open up the space with retainers instead of the usual braces.. The current space between my teeth now is about 4mm, i also wanted to know how long it would take for this space to be opened up and ready for implant. Im 20 years old if that may be relevant..

I think that if the dog wore the next set for two weeks it would even things out. I also think if you eat a few dog &nbsp;treats, you might be getting even with your dog!

The so called &quot;Invisaling Retainer&quot; is also referred to as an Essix retainer.&nbsp;

	Upon the completion of orthodontic treatment, retainers are always used. Some people can have very stable results while others will see some tooth movement within hours after the retainer is removed. There will always be tooth movement throughout a life time whether you had braces or not. Malocclussions are very stable. This why retainers are used.&nbsp;

	&nbsp;

	Wearing a fixed retainer can present potential problems. It tends to prevent excellent oral hygiene. It is more difficult to floss with a fixed retainer so that there is a potential for decay and gum disease. They can also break or debond. When this happens, teeth can shift. If it comes loose, it could be swallowed or even worse, aspirated.&nbsp;

	&nbsp;

	Removable retainers are much more hygienic in that they are removed for brushing and flossing.&nbsp;

	&nbsp;

	This is a personal subject between yourself and your orthodontist.

I will be completing a 9 month invisalign course in a few months and I have been offered two forms of retention: - fixed wire - Invisalign retainer Fixed would be preferable but teeth would touch wire and would need &quot;dahl principle&quot; to solve. Sounds quite dramatic. With a fixed retainer if I only wore this for 12 hours a day would my teeth remain in position or would it have to be worn for longer? Can&#39;t bear thought of having to wear it for 20+ hours a day like with Invisalign braces currently

Your last photo reveals a class II bite. This means that the upper teeth are a full tooth forward of the lower teeth. You would need to confirm this with an exam and orthodontist records.

	&nbsp;

	To fix a class II bite it might be necessary to extract one or two teeth depending on the diagnosis. You can still fix the problem with Invisalign if you wish. In closing the extraction site, roots of teeth adjacent to the extraction site might not be parallel and might possibly need to&nbsp;upright the teeth&nbsp;with braces for a few months at the end of Invisalign treatment.

	It would be wise to consult an orthodontist.

I&#39;m 22, crowding on the bottom teeth, and small gap and snaggle tooth at the top, and an overbite. Braces or invisalign? How long would treatment aprrox. take which one would generally be most cost effective?
