I wasn’t sure which surgeon to choose for my Labiaplasty. Upon searching on RealSelf, Doctor Patrick came up number one when I searched for surgeons in my area. I had been toying with the idea of a Labiaplasty procedure for a good few years, and finally decided I wouldn’t be content unless I’d had it done. I was recommended to Dr Campbell after a previous vaginal surgery, which unfortunately did not heal correctly and left my labia disfigured. Before the labiaplasty procedure, I was extremely self-conscious of how one of my labia minora looked and concerned about potential further damage. Now, I feel much more confident and happy with barely any discernible difference in the operated vs non-operated labia. The procedure itself was straightforward, with a relatively easy recovery following the advice given. What really stood out to me was Dr Campbell and his team helping the time pass and calming my nerves by playing music and keeping me in conversation. If you are looking for a labiaplasty, even if you believe it to be a complicated case, Dr Campbell has my vote of confidence and I can’t begin to thank him enough for changing my life in this way.

On my first consultation with Patrick Campbell I discussed at length how lichen sclerosus was affecting my life both physically and emotionally. I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosus around 2018 and attended the RVH for assessment and treatment. I didn't know anything about the condition and whilst my GP at the time was sympathetic and supportive I was left feeling anxious and worried that this condition was taking up residence in a very personal area of my body and affecting my confidence and my intimate relationship with my husband. My symptoms were severe itch particularly at night and scratching the skin to gain relief caused redness and soreness. I became increasingly concerned when I examined myself using a mirror and discovered white/silvery patches on my labia. I didn't realise that scratching the skin could lead to adhesions in the labia area. I was only comfortable wearing lose trousers and underwear. I spent time on the internet researching possible causes and natural remedies along with possible trigger foods but nothing offered relief. I had two surgeries between 2020 and 2021 and unfortunately neither were successfuI. I battled on and hoped that I would be able to locate a specialist who would have the knowledge, experience and skills to help me get my life back to some kind of normality and one where my thoughts would not be consumed with Lichen Sclerosus. That is when I was referred to Dr.Patrick Campbell by a specialist in Belfast City Hospital.
I was so relieved to find a doctor who understood the condition and I felt reassured and confident that this could finally be sorted. My surgery involved removing a large cyst over my clitoris and having adhesions released which widened the opening. This was successful and I am able to comfortably wear trousers and enjoy intimacy with my partner. I feel very fortunate to have had this surgery and I can't thank Patrick enough for all his support, his understanding and encouragement in dealing with this nasty condition. Dr Campbell is the most amazing doctor I’ve ever been to! I was told by the nurse on duty the day of my procedure that he is a perfectionist and a true artist… this is absolutely the case! I was immediately put at ease as soon as I met Dr Campbell. You can really get a sense of how much his work means to him and the care he has for his patients. I am over the moon with my results and would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Campbell to anyone looking at the treatments he offers!

I wasn’t fully sure what to expect when going into my consultation for labiaplasty but dr Campbell immediately put me at ease. He went through the ins and outs of the procedure as well as the risks and recovery.

I chose to get a labiaplasty as it was simply an inconvenience in my life- mostly practically but also mentally.

I was offered local anaesthetic or general and chose local. It was a great decision as I was able to go home the same day- the nurses were also brilliant I couldn’t have asked for a better team on the day.

After the procedure Dr Campbell always checked in to make sure the recovery was going to plan incase he needed to offer any advice. I was able to go back to work within a week and back to training several weeks later.

I regret not getting the procedure sooner as the recovery had been bliss and I am pain free!

From the first appointment, Dr. Campbell put me at ease. It was obvious how much knowledge and experience he had and knew exactly what he needed to do to help me after an examination. I really appreciated the open-ness and transparency of our conversations and the absence of any feeling of embarrassment when discussing my issues with vaginal laxity, flatulence and my enlarged labia. My surgery was complex and it involved multiple procedures which were very technical. I felt completely reassured by Dr.Campbell that I was in safe hands and he was genuinely caring and very considerate during all of my interactions with him. The surgery went exactly to plan and I recovered very well after my operation and despite the initial pain, I felt instantly different “down there”. I am now 12 weeks post-op and have not had a single episode of vaginal flatulence. I used to feel nervous going to the gym or yoga as certain movements could make this happen - well not anymore. I have my confidence back and everything is now back where it “should be!”. Visually, there is a significant improvement and my vagina is as it was before I gave birth.
