I am a really happy person, but my face looked sad. Not anymore. Dr. Shaw is incredibly skilled, competent and extremely kind. If you want great results and a great experience, make an appointment with him.
The gum line gets swollen because food debri and plaque easily accumulate on the fractured tooth causing inflammation (bleeding + puffiness) of the gum. You should do your best to keep the area clean. Gently taking a tooth-pick and use it to wipe the surface of the tooth near the gumline will help remove the plaque in the area. The area may bleed initially, but continue to keep the area clean. To keep the inside of the tooth from filling up with debri, do salt water rinses. But you need to go to the dentist to have an x-ray done. Somtimes if the tooth is broken down to the gum line, it can still be saved by doing a root canal, and a post to hold the core/crown structure of the tooth. If it's determined from the x-ray that there isn't enough bone anchorage for the tooth, tooth should be extracted. I hope I answered your question!
If you have an abscess or inflammed nerve, your dentist may want to create an opening in the crown to relieve pressure so that it can give you temporary comfort and reduce any throbbing pain you may be having. But is that the case? Are you feeling any pain or throbbing on the tooth with the crown? If you're not having any pain, then I'm not sure why the crown is being opened.
Implants cannot be moved once placed. So, your orthodontic treatment should be completed first to align the teeth and keep room for future placement of implant(s). But prior to beginning orthodontic treatment, the decayed teeth will need to be restored with fillings and/or crowns depending on how much tooth structure remains after removing the decay. Once your teeth are free of cavities and/or if you've had teeth removed, you may ask "why do I have to go without my teeth and missing spaces in my smile for a long time" because orthodontic treatment can take time to complete. For esthetic reasons, if you have missing space(s) that show when you smile, there are removable appliances that can be fabricated to fill the spaces with teeth. The appliance can be worn while you're getting ortho treatment. Once your teeth are aligned, you can have your implants placed. I hope I answered your question!
