Timolol is a completely different medication and will not have the same effect on eyelash growth.
LASIK and PRK use the same technology (excimer) to reshape the cornea. LASIK requires the construction of a "flap" first with either a different kind of laser (femtosecond) or a blade. This flap is usually anywhere from 40-100 microns thick and is lifted up before the re-shaping laser is applied and then laid back down afterwards. This is a great option for someone with mild to moderate refractive error and normal or thicker corneas. With PRK, no flap is created, only the surface "skin cells" (epithelium) are removed and the re-shaping laser is directly applied to the top surface of the cornea. This is a better option for someone with slight epithelial disease, borderline or thinner than normal corneas, or someone with an active career. LASIK
Latisse is derived from a medication we use to treat glaucoma. In addition to lowering eye pressure, a noted side effect was that patients grew longer eyelashes. A normal eye pressure can range from 8 to 22. As ophthalmologists we look at eye pressure as only one factor among many in determining if you have glaucoma. Your optic nerve appearance, visual field, nerve fiber layer thickness, age and family history are also important variables. If anything, Latisse might slightly lower your eye pressure.
A fracture of the bones around the eye can cause double vision for two reasons: 1. Entrapment of the muscle within the broken bone fragments. 2. Swelling of the muscle, fat and connective tissue within the orbit due to bleeding or inflammation. If a muscle is entrapped, surgery is indicated to release the muscle as was done with your daughter. However, the residual swelling within the orbit or possibly a residual blood clot within the previously trapped muscle may be limiting her eye movements and causing double vision. It can take approximately 6 weeks to 3 months in some cases for all of the swelling to resolve, so patience is necessary. However, if the vision in this eye alone is worsening or the double vision is worsening you need to return to your surgeon immediately to ensure to no additional bleeding occurred.
Latisse is derived from a glaucoma medication that works well to lower eye pressure. There are concerns that in the immediate post-operative period(6-8 weeks)after cataract surgery it can cause a subtle swelling in the retina that may reduce vision. However, after more than one year out from cataract surgery you should be fine using Latisse. The usual side effects may still apply including possible red eyes and increased pigmentation.
