Over the past several years, I have had numerous occurrences of skin cancer (basal and squamous cells) to my scalp and facial area. In most cases, these cancer cells were successfully treated by my Dermatologist, via Mohs surgery. Most recently, however, a diagnosis of Atypical Fiberoxanthoma to my scalp, which was initially treated via Mohs surgery and followed by a six-week regimen of radiation, unfortunately required more extensive surgery. My surgical team consisted of a trio of specialists: a Surgical Oncologist, a Neurological Surgeon and a Plastic Surgeon. Surgery went well, with each Surgeon lending their expertise.
Following a period of recuperation and extensive discussion with my Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Michael A. Howard, I decided to proceed with scalp reconstruction. In preparation, Dr. Howard thoroughly explained the procedure to me and my family; responding to each of our questions, guiding us both before and after surgery and through each follow-up visit. I am pleased to report a most successful outcome, from scalp reconstruction surgery. For anyone needing the expertise of a Plastic Surgeon, I highly recommend the extremely talented and most personable Michael A. Howard, Plastic Surgeon.
