Dr. Michael Glafkides performed my expander implants and subsequent reconstruction surgeries after a mastectomy. I could not of been more pleased with the results and his level of professionalism, responsiveness, and care. In 2019, many implant patients were sent letters due to a worldwide withdrawal of specific types of textured breast implants. The FDA notification of Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma incidences occurring in these types of implants were the implants I had chosen and it caused me to have concerns. BIA-ALCL is a serious condition that can cause serious health implications if not diagnosed early and treated properly. After consultations with Dr. Glafkides we moved forward in 2020 with a capsulectomy and replacement of these implants. Research has shown that various doctors approach this surgery in different ways, but Dr. Glafkides was successful with a minimal invasion procedure to remove some scar tissue and replace my implants. I cannot say enough about the knowledge and skill level that has been proven in my multiple surgeries with Dr. Michael Glafkides. He is the expert in his field of recsontruction surgery.
There are not enough words to describe how AMAZING Dr. Glafkides and his team are. Before meeting him, I had consulted with another plastic surgeon who made me feel uncomfortable and unsure about moving forward with my large breast reduction. I gave it a second chance and consulted with Dr. Glafkides who made ALL of my fears and worries go away by taking time to show and explain the process. He and his staff made me feel so welcomed and after my consult I felt so comfortable with my decision to move forward with surgery. He even personally called to speak with my husband who had questions and concerns about the process. I am 2 weeks post surgery and so incredibly pleased with the results and the care and support he has given me post-op. Thank you Dr. Glafkides for your kindness, care, support and making me feel so beautiful!
Dr. Glafkides did an amazing job that looks so very natural and will last a very long time. The results are all I hoped for and more. He was excellent with follow up appts to make sure everything was went smoothly during an easy recovery and I was back out doing my daily activities within two weeks. I would trust him in the future for any procedure he specialized in again.
I am beyond thankful to have found Dr. Glafkides. He performed my most recent reconstructive breast surgery after undergoing a double mastectomy and three prior reconstructive surgeries due to breast cancer. There are many plastic & reconstructive surgeons to select from, however not many listen to the patients wants, needs and desires. Dr. Glafkides has THE best artistic eye for his craft, he exudes kindness and I stand with Dr. Glafkides to take care of ME inside and out.
Dr. Glafkides did my breasts reconstruction after a bi-lateral mastectomy and radiation. He did such a wonderful job, that I like my breasts better than before the whole ordeal. Not only is he most professional in his job, but also the kindest person. I've seen another plastic surgeon before, which all about perfection and doing whatever HE thought was good for me, not listening to what I wanted and needed, even telling me that I will change my mind and asking if I'm willing to gain weight. Dr. Glafkides first listened to me and my needs, and then proceeded in explaining thoroughly how he can do exactly that, and what that means. He did a great job, exactly what I needed, not only in outcome, but also in the process that it took, all of this with lots of compassion and care. His office personal are also the most helpful, curtious and accomodating. I am happy to provide further info by need, in private, you can contact me thru the office.
Dr Glafkides is an excellent physician! I had a laceration along my collarbone that I feared would leave a lifelong scar. Dr Glafkides did a wonderful job treating my wound and I'm amazed by the results (no scar!). Both Dr. Glafkides and his staff are kind, caring and completely professional. I highly recommend him and his office.
I couldn't be more pleased with Dr. Glafkides, his work, his staff, his kindness, his professionalism! I had a breast aug by him over 10 years ago....excellent work!! Still 100% pleased! Recently I returned for an abdominoplasty. It's been almost 6 weeks and again, I couldn't be more pleased with everything, the planning, surgery, recovery, appearance, overall health.....aces all the way!
Dr Glafkides was wonderful. He was professional, caring and sensitive. His office staff were very nice and easy to work with. I could get appointments easily and he was on time. I recommend Dr Glafkides.
Dr. Glafkides recently performed reconstructive surgery on my nose to repair the wound left by MOHS surgery for skin cancer. He and his staff were highly recommended by my dermatological surgeon, and I couldn’t be happier with the results of the surgery. I’m amazed by how well the area has healed in the four months since my surgery. Even my dermatologist commented on how great my nose looks during my biannual skin check yesterday. Thank you, Dr. Glafkides! You and your staff made a stressful situation so much easier to cope with.
I have been a patient of Dr Glafkides for many years and recently contiplated volbella lip filler. I had many conversations wth the doctor expressing my hesitation and concerns, and he was very patient and listened to me explaining exactly what to expect and that he would be very conservative. At no point did I ever feel pressured and I greatly appreciate that about him. When I finally decided to do the Volbella I was genuinely pleased with the result and with his precision. I fully trust Dr Glafkides, have no hesitation in recommending him for this, and other procedures. The office staff are efficient and very welcoming, making for a pleasant experience all around.
In choosing the correct sized breast implant for patients I believe that measurements of the chest and the breast are helpful. I also review pre and post operative photos of other patients with similar physical appearances to get an idea of how a patient would like to look. We discuss the different types of implants, namely saline filled versus silicone, especially the newer cohesive gel implants which come in a variety of projections and cohesiveness. In your case, where you want to fill the loose tissue and you already have some fullness of your breasts, a small implant around 200cc will fill the tissues nicely. Ultimately, I like to use sizers at the time of surgery. They are the same size as the permanent implant and can be used to see exactly how the breasts will look with the permanent implant. Sometimes it is necessary to increase or decrease the size of the final implant depending on the appearance. It doesn't add much time to the surgery and allows the surgeon to be more precise with the final implant size. If the implants are placed under the chest muscle, you will likely experience a bit more pain and will need more time to recover than if they are placed under the breast. You will want to avoid lifting your daughter for the first week, as you don't want to have problems with pain, swelling, and possible bleeding.
It is not uncommon to have some post-operative swelling following blepharoplasty surgery. This may take a few weeks to a few months to subside. I will advise my patients to gently massage the swollen areas with a Q-tip, rolling it gently to compress the tissues and massage the scars. This can be done twice a day. Rarely, there could be a protrusion of the upper eyelid fat located in the inner aspect of the upper eyelid. Sometimes patients can develop an allergy to topical antibiotic ointment, so this should be stopped once the incisions are healed. Keep in touch with your plastic surgeon to make sure the areas settle down.
I prefer my patients to have an anesthesiologist present to provide conscious sedation or general anesthesia. It is important for your health to have a qualified board certified anesthesiologist monitoring you during your operation so that the surgeon can concentrate on the procedure. While there may be some benefit in a lower incidence of blood clots in the legs developing during sedation, we always apply sequential compression devices on our patients during surgery to prevent this problem. Often the anesthesiologist can administer a mixture of medication during a general anesthetic to keep you comfortable, including anti-nausea medication. Most of my patients are comfortable undergoing a general anesthetic, and this is a very safe method when administered by qualified physicians.
I advise my patients that the first few days after surgery are the most uncomfortable with swelling and some bruising. However, the discomfort is minimal, as I am careful with my surgical technique, and use small drains to prevent fluid from collecting. After showering on post-operative day 4, patients feel much better and begin a gradual return to their normal activity. By the end of the week, they can wear a little makeup and feel more comfortable appearing in public. The stitches are removed between 6 and 10 days post-operatively, patients can be more active, and by the end of two weeks they have essentially returned to a normal routine, although avoiding strenuous activity.
