Veneer temorizaiton technique varies among dentists. Generally speaking most patients experience some degree of sensitivity while in temporary restoration, which is reversible. However if you experience throbbing pain and sensitive after consuming hot food or beverage, please discuss that with your dentist.
The only way to create translucency and natural characterization is to incorporate them in the design and fabrication of the veneers, prior to insertion.
Great question and photos. I would recommend addressing the fundamental issue which is your alignment before investing in laminates. Mislaigned occlusion can impact your facial balance. Therefore any investment you make in laminates would not deliver it’s full potential and you’ll be disappointed. Furthermore aligning laminates teeth is more challenging, therefore sequencing your treatment is critical.
Hi I am very sorry to hear of your ongoing issue. I do see a lot of young patients with eating disorder in my practice. Unfortunately bulimia can cause severe acid erosion of teeth. The other unfortunate issue is that it tends to affect most teeth indiscriminately. The good news is the look of your teeth is completely restorable and with the right design your teeth can look as good if not better than before. So stomach acid doe not affect ceramics but if you have veneers and onlays, acid can impact the back of restorations.
Cosmetic dentistry is not a sub-specialty of dentistry, therefore skilled cosmetic dentists are self taught through working closely under a mentor and continuing education. When I taught at Columbia University, I made it my mission to teach cosmetic dentistry to my eager residents but because most of our patients were insurance based, I rarely got the chance to treat patients in cosmetic procedures. If a practice or clinic is in-network with insurances, it is not positioned to treat cosmetic patients because most insurances do not cover cosmetic procedures. Best way to find a cosmetic dentist is to look at their portfolio, experience level and overall philosophy towards facial aesthetic. After all cosmetic dentistry is more than just smile design and teeth have a significant impact in overall facial balance and appearance.
