Dr. Mathieson is an amazing physician and human being. Having breast cancer, it was imperative that I find the best doctor possible to do my implants as I had learned there could be many problems if things went awry. It appeared from my research that Dr. Mathieson's reputation and track record in Sarasota was exemplary in every way, so I felt confident in moving forward with him to perform my implant surgery. Certainly, one of the best aspects of his practice is his personality as he is as kind, professional and gentle a doctor as I've ever known, putting me at ease with his quiet humor and concerned questions. The best part of all, of course, was the result. I am delighted with how I look, and there have been no complications or issues at all, with my healing time on or ahead of schedule. I prayed hard for a great plastic surgeon in Sarasota, and found my man - Dr. Mathieson - the best of the best. Thank you!!!!

Dr. Mathieson is very concerned about you and any problem you have had previously and anything he can do to make it easier for you. I have a lot of allergies and he made sure he could work within my boundries. I totally have courage in my doctor !! I am an experienced OR nurse so he did listen to me and my requests. I had a wonderful experience. I love the small office setting, as it made me feel at home. Him and his wife were so great to work with. He has excellent bedside manner and you can just tell he is a very kind person who cares. He spent so much time explaining things to me and my husband, and never made us feel rushed. Dr. Mathieson is the epitome of kindness, caring, warmth and professionalism. He is very approachable and ensures that he is reachable following any procedures. This is a small office allowing Dr. Mathieson to treat his patients like family. When he talks to you about the procedure, he tells you exactly what to expect in language that can be understood. He welcomes your questions! Prior to my surgery, we spent over an hour going over medications and allergies so we could devise a plan to ensure the best outcome. At each appointment, I was seen by Dr. Mathieson, not a PA or an assistant. Any questions which I had while at home, were addressed quickly either by phone or by email. On surgery day, emotions are always high. My husband was very stressed and was so grateful to receive the call from Dr. Mathieson following surgery. My husband said that Dr. Mathieson has a way of taking the stress out of the situation and is able to bring calmness and balance. Dr. Mathieson spoke in non medical terms and made things easy to understand. He treated my husband with such respect and kindness. During that inpatient stay, Dr. Mathieson came to see me everyday. Shannon, who runs the office, is equally kind, compassionate and professional. She strives to work with insurance, home care nursing, scheduling and any other services to ensure that the patient is harbored from any stress so can concentrate on recuperating. Updated on 30 Mar 2022: To be told you have breast cancer and then asked if you have a plastic surgeon who can do reconstruction after the mastectomy is about as surreal as it gets! This happens to so many women everyday in the United States. My Oncologist gave me my diagnosis and then a list of plastic surgeons, who would take insurance, to contact as soon as possible, so surgery could be scheduled. Not knowing any of them and still being in shock, I began calling. Believe it or not, the first two told me that I had chosen the worst time to do this (get breast cancer) as it was “snowbird” season, the third was going on vacation and finally the heavens opened as I called plastic surgeon’s office number 4, Dr. Mark Mathieson’s office. A kind sincere voice answered and told me how sorry she was to hear of my diagnosis. She reassured me that Dr. Mathieson had worked with my oncologist in the past and although he had a full schedule that day, he would want to see me in after his last patient. I met with Dr Mathieson that day and have never looked back. I also found out that they kind voice that offered me compassion over that first phone call was Dr. Mathieson’s wife, Shannon. Dr. Mathieson and Shannon are really the dynamic duo. Shannon handles all the background administration side of things including home health nursing, insurance, scheduling, billing, credentialing etc whereas Dr. Mathieson not only does the obvious medical side, he calls you personally if you have a problem, he visits you at the hospital daily, he meets you at the office if you need him (yes at the weekend if necessary), he speaks to your husband and delicately becomes the diplomat when he needs to. He advocates for you at the hospital, to your insurance, to your family doctor and to anyone else that he needs to. He truly fights for whatever you need. If something is not done to his highest standards you can be assured it will be done again. This is the team you need when you are sick. I am a strong determined person and a registered nurse. During my illness, there were times when I was unable to fight. Dr. Mathieson and Shannon were my cavalry each and every time. I am so indebted to their kindness, compassion and professionalism. As a nurse, I can tell you that you that this is definitely not the norm. I would highly recommend Dr. Mathieson and Shannon to my closest friends and family.
