I strongly recommend Dr. van Zyl for any type of IOL replacement or cataract surgery. I had the bilateral (both eyes at the same time) IOL replacement in June 2019 and I was able to see immediately after the operation with no pain or any type of complications whatsoever. My eyes healed very quickly and I only wore the patches for the first few nights to avoid accidental touching. I started working from home within a couple of days but did not risk going back to work, to minimise risk of infection from others. I previously had very poor eye sight and this had a negative impact on my lifestyle as I was totally and at all times dependent on prescription glasses even when watching TV or taking a shower. I chose the Extended Depth of Focus lenses, with identical outcome for both eyes. I did not opt for the blended vision as I am still quite active and play sports such as Tennis which requires good perception of depth/distance of the ball. Dr. van Zyl is very knowledgeable, approachable, and was extremely patient with me despite my repeated questions and reservations about the surgery at first. A big thank you.
Regression after PRK can happen but looking at the amount of laser that was done on your eye one can only presume that your cornea has thinned out quite a bit. You might have developed a condition we refer to as post laser ectasia. That has to be rules out first and as quicly as possible before you attempt any further correction.
FML can be stopped after 2 weeks if there is no inflammation. You are getting a toxicity from the drops most probably from the preservatives. I would suggest you stop the drops and see your Eye Surgeon as soon as possible
In Trans PRK cases it takes about a month for your vision to recover fully and can sometimes even take 3 months. In saying that it is by far the safest for of laser vision correction as there is not "cutting" and touching involved. One week after surgery is way too quick to make any judgement on visual recovery. Just give it a few more weeks and keep your Eye Surgeon in the loop. Best of luck
Glare and haloes are extremely common in any type of laser vision correction. It usually settles well unless you have significant residual refractive error. In some cases it is protracted so just hang on. It is unfortunately well known that in rare cases haloes and glare are persistent. I would however suggest that you stop your ?steroid drops and only continue with lubricants. I would also suggest that you see your optometrist or Eye Surgeon as soon as possible to test the pressures in your eyes as you might have what we call a steroid response with high eye pressures. If the pressure is too high it can cause oedema of your cornea which will definitely worsen haloes. It would be a good idea to get checked out as soon as possible
It is very well known that visual recovery can take up to one month to recover despite what is advertised regarding SMILE. The fact that you have lost vision is not a good sign and I would suggest you see your Eye Surgeon as soon as possible
