QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Hysterectomy into menopause. I'm smaller and dry - will this procedure help me?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

This is the ideal patient. In order to improve the elasticity of the vaginal canal and allow it to stretch, it is important to get healthy tissue growth. The Monalisa touch improves vaginal epithelium and promotes new collagen growth. It is designed to improve lubrication and decrease pain associated with menopause. If the vaginal canal is very shortened the laser therapy may be paired with vaginal dilators.

Will Mona Lisa treatments help a tight hymenal ring?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

The MonaLisa Touch laser therapy can improve the health of the tissue at the hymenal ring as you have described. The vaginal mucosa changes after menopause and can cause decreased elasticity, dryness and narrowing. Treating the tissue at the mucosal level improves blood flow and collagen giving back that healthy tissue you experienced prior to menopause. In the hands of an experienced provider they can work with you to do the laser treatment as well as another other modalities you may need to get you happily back to pleasurable intercourse.

What is the time span between the initial 1st, 2nd, and 3rd treatments for the MonaLisa Touch?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It is recommended to wait 6 weeks before the next treatment. We have many patients that are not able to come for a visit at the 6 week mark, and that is ok! When it works for your schedule arrange your next appointment, just no sooner than 6 weeks. The tissue that was previously treated is replaced with healthy tissue and that will remain, you will not do any harm to the therapy waiting longer to treat again.

Can you get the MonaLisa procedure or the ThermiVa if you have had the bladder mesh?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

The mesh used to support your bladder (anterior compartment) if placed correctly should not be exposed to the vagina. It is placed under the vaginal mucosa. It is safe to use MonaLisa Touch laser therapy on the vaginal mucosa to improve the health of the tissue, lubrication and pleasurable sex.

Do you need prophylaxis for Mona Lisa Touch if you've had a joint replacement?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

There is no need for antibiotic prophylaxis with the MonaLisa Touch Laser. The laser is treating the vaginal mucosa (skin) and does not penetrate past the skin surface and therefore can't release bacteria into the blood stream.

I need information regarding the MonaLisa Touch. Can you be on hormones at the same time? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Vaginal Estrogen replacement does not need to stop while undergoing the MonaLisa Touch Laser. We find it helpful to continue use to comfort. As the vaginal tissues become healthier and more lubricated after the laser treatment, the need to continue them often dissipates.

It is also important to work on pelvic floor relaxation and use lubrication until your body realizes that the tissue is now healthy and will not hurt as it once did when the vagina was extremely dry.

Would the MonaLisa procedure be for me? Cost? Are you put to sleep? Is it painful?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Mona Lisa Touch Laser is performed in the office without going to sleep. Your provider can offer a mild anti-anxiety medication, but most patients do not require it. The beauty of this procedure is that it is fast and relatively painless. A numbing cream is applied to the outer part of the vagina.

There are different probe sizes that can be used to help with a narrow vagina. At the first treatment the entire probe may not fit, so as the tissue gets healthier with each treatment, progress can be made to include the entire vaginal length.

Most importantly, a multi-disciplinary approach is going to be needed to help you reach realistic goals of intimacy with penetration after such a break. Improving the quality of the vaginal tissue will be very important!
