Hi slidinggenio123, My name is Dr. Kevin Francois and I am board certified Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon currently practicing in Jacksonville Fl. Not sure what kind of jaw surgery you are scheduled for but genioplasty alone will not correct the nasolabial lines. Typically, maxillary advancement can correct the nasolabial lines and thereby render a more youthful appearance. Hope this helps. Kevin Francois MD DDS
Hi Gregarious522666, My name is Kevin Francois and I am a board certified Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon practicing in Jacksonville Fl. Jaw surgery (especially advancements) can improve the neck contour and accordingly improve the double chin. You may consider doing a neck liposuction at the time of the surgery as well. You can discuss that with the surgeon when you meet them. Genioplasty, alone, will not fix the malocclusion. Albeit , it can help improve the double the chin to some extent. Hope this helps. Hi Leeloo90, My name is Kevin Francois and I am a board certified Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon currently practicing in Jax, FL. That is a great question. Genioplasty, or chin surgery, is a procedure to reshape or reposition the chin to improve facial aesthetics and balance. It can be performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons, such as correcting a receding or protruding chin or geniotubercle advancement which can then lead to airway improvements. It can usually correct mild sleep apnea. On the other hand, jaw surgery or a sagittal split osteotomy is a surgical procedure used to correct issues with the alignment of the jaw or sleep apnea. It involves splitting the jawbone (mandible) to reposition it. This procedure is typically performed to correct bite issues or to improve facial aesthetics or to improve the airway by realigning the lower jaw. It typically addresses severe cases of sleep apnea or upper airway resistance syndrome. Both procedures involve surgical risks and recovery times, but the sagittal split osteotomy may have more significant restrictions on diet and jaw movement post-surgery compared to genioplasty, which typically allows normal mouth opening and diet. Hope this helps. Kevin Francois MD DDS
Hi, There are multiple things you can consider to help improve the lines around your chin. You can have botox or filler injections which would temporarily fix the issue. On the other hand, you may have a small chin which can lead to skin redundancy in the area. In that case a chin implant can help. Hard to tell from the photo. You would need to see a physician for a consultation in order to have that discussion. Hope that helps.
