Bonding is a viable option, it would probably run you a couple hundred bucks a tooth, but I would probably recommend a procedure called Odontoplasty to reduce the residual mamelons. This procedure costs around $200 and would be inclusive all the four front teeth. Basically, the doctor would reshape and recontour your teeth to make them have a better, more uniform appearance.

I agree with the other doctors here... Ortho is your best option. If you do bonding you would have two abnormally large teeth and it would not look ideal.

Closing smaller spaces is easier; the idea is to maintain ideal proportions relative to natural tooth size. If we merely bonded these teeth, you would have abnormally wide central incisors and it would not look good.

Ortho would be ideal, but Veneers are also another option, although you'd need more than just the front two done.

Based on what I can see in your photo...

1. The gray band you are seeing is normal. Crowns are sometimes still made with a metal coping (we refer to these as PFM's, or porcelain fused to metal) The gray band you are seeing is coming from the margin where the metal meets the porcelain. This is typical on the lingual (tongue) side of crowns. 

2. If flossing between the crown and your tooth causes floss to shred, that can be fixed by having your dentist smooth the contact between these two teeth. 

3. If it is painful to chew, your dentist can smooth the top portion of the crown down a bit (microns) which will alleviate this issue.

4. Cold sensitivity is unfortunately normal whenever dental surgery is done. It should go away with a few days - weeks. If it does not, it could be a result of the bite being too tall (which in your case it sounds like it is) and after adjusting the bite, cold sensitivity will go away.

Simply speaking, when a root canal is performed, the "guts" are removed from the tooth. The tooth is then filled with a rubber material and is not at strong as it once was. Whenever we perform root canals on back teeth, we recommend that these teeth get crowns due to these teeth doing most of the work (chewing food). If the dentist ground down the edges, you would not occlude (touch) it at all with your other teeth. While this seems like you solved a problem, you now run in to more. Teeth that don't occlude properly tend to trap food and patients report that they have a problem "clearing" the tooth. If you didn't get a crown to protect your tooth and simply let food accumulate on it, decay would be imminent. And although the tooth treated with the root canal therapy would not "feel" any pain, it can still get decay which can spread to other teeth and cause a whole slew of other problems.
