I saw Dr. Slaughter for upper lip reconstruction after a bad fall. He tried an ingenious technique that minimized scarring and maximized symmetry. He posts some incredible photos of reconstructions post-Mohs surgery. The OR staff was great. All in all it was an excellent experience. I would see him if I needed a plastic surgeon again in a heartbeat.
STAY AWAY! Dr. Slaughter indeed. I had a forehead lift and upper and lower double bleth procedures in October 2022 (drooping eyelids). The entire ordeal was the WORST experience I've ever had. From the day of the surgery, two dozen needle pokes for the nurse to insert the IV, being apparently OD'd with anesthesia, was literally physically removed from the recovery room due to my inability to "wake up" and offered no compassion for the distress of the state I was in at discharge (they needed that bed!). The end result is that I have deep craters in my forehead that are visual through my hairline (can't wear my hair back anymore), string oozed out of the wounds, stitches fell out a week or so after the surgery, my drooping eyelid STILL rests on my eye lashes, impairing my peripheral vision (at six months and over a year post-op), I still have pain under my scalp, the right side of my face is NO LONGER IN LINE WITH THE LEFT SIDE, I have large scars on my face that I never anticipated, I was never prepared for any of this - Dr. Slaughter never discussed any of this with me. When I met with Dr. Slaughter post-op, he literally became angry in frustration due to my complaints - further overwhelming me with stress and anxiety. I was assured at that last meeting that Dr. Williams would make it right for me; however, he cancelled my appointment with him last minute yesterday and I got a call today that he will not see me, that I must see Dr. Slaughter only (go back to the man who screwed it up the first time?!) or they'll send me my file. Awaiting my file to take to my lawyer and a new plastic surgeon to fix this mess. This is beyond unacceptable.
Newly transplanted grafts do not need any medication for growth. There are some thoughts that treatments such as PRP during or immediately after surgery can help minimize shocking and improve graft survival and expedite early growth of new transplants. PRP, at least the way I prepare it without costly additives is the only natural treatment option that may be effective. Medications such as Minoxidil can prevent loss of native hair that might be lost otherwise naturally or from surgical trauma, essentially shocking. I tell my patients to consider all treatment options as tools in the toolbox and frequently you need multiple different types of tools to finish a project nicely!
