In my practice I give my patients a printed sheet containing all do’s and dont’s along with appropriate instructions. Massaging breasts after breast implant surgery is important after smooth silicon implant insertion. My nurse instructs and demonstrates how to do breast massage to all my operated patients during their second visit to the clinic which is on the seventh day after surgery. The massage is done by gently pushing the breast implant in the breast tissue in upwards and upwards and inward direction (towards chin) and upwards and outwards (towards shoulders) do it for 10 counts in each direction and continue it for as long as advised. A thorough physical exam is required. If you have bacterial infection and you undergo invasive surgery chances are your implants get colonised with the bacteria. A good cosmetic surgeons always tries to reduce the chances of thick capsule formation during and following surgery by good operative technique, clean surgical dissection, delicate tissue handling, bloodless pocked formation, reducing chances of contamination, using powder free gloves, using Keller funnel, post op massage etc. when there is capsular contracture you can observe following changes. The breast development starts around puberty and the scientific terminology for that is “thelarche” age of onset of thelarche or breast development varies vastly and it can be as early at 8 years and as late as 16 years and 12 years being average age is usually completed around 18 to 22 years of age. It mostly depend on the age at which your mother started developing breasts as there is strong genetic influence on age of breast development and overall size and shape of the breast. However women’s breast keep on changing throughout her life. During early teen age years the breast are more glandular and firm often labelled as “perky” as the age the glandular component reduces and fatty component increases. After menopause the glandular tissue are very much shrunk and replaced by fatty tissue. Size and shape changes with weight gain and weight loss.
