The reason for needing to have a lower incisor removed is to facilitate the alignment of your teeth in jaws that are not of equal proportion. From the pictures you have included, it appears you have a mild jaw discrepancy with your lower jaw being slightly larger than your upper. Space is needed in the lower arch to align the teeth, and maintain them behind your upper teeth while camouflaging your jaw issue. So what other options are available, if you dont want to have a lower tooth pulled. A) Make the upper teeth larger= crowns or veneers B) make the lower teeth smaller= shaving between multiple teeth to make them more narrow . C) jaw surgery to make your upper and lower jaw the same size D) align the teeth; and live with a "bull-dog bite" of your lower teeth in front of your uppers.Hope this helps
The removal of 4 first premolars will facilitate the resolution of your crowding issues, without negatively impacting your profile. Think of it as having room in your jaws for only 24 vs 28 teeth. With you having concern with your profile, you should ask your orthodontist about a mandibular surgery- if it was not previously discussed- to address the issue of your short lower jaw and profile esthetics. Also ensure that your braces are being done by an orthodontic specialist- a doctor who has received 2-3 years of additional specialty training in the field of orthodontics- to receive the appropriate treatment. Some important questions to ask your treatment provider are: Are they a specialist in orthodontics; where did they receive their training in orthodontics; how many case like yours have they treated; do they work closely with any other specialists as part of an interdisciplinary team. I wish you the best
