I would suggest discontinuing Latisse one week prior to your surgery. Latisse increases inflammation at the lash line and the goal is to minimize the inflammation after your blepharoplasty surgery. Most likely your lashes will return to your original length after 6 weeks of no Latisse. Once you have healed your surgeon will give you the green light to resume your Latisse and your lashes will grow again. In the postoperative period your eyelids will be swollen, bruised and inflammed which is not a good time for Latisse. Depending on how you heal your surgeon may approve Latisse use after 2 weeks of healing. Good Luck!
It is best not to apply the Latisse at nighttime if you are wearing an overnight contact lens. I advise patients to use their Latisse in the morning alone or under their mascara. You will still see all the lash growth benefits with am application. All eye medications should be avoided when using overnight contact lenses.
Red, irritated , itchy eyes after starting Latisse is a common side effect of the medication. Although bothersome, it is rarely harmful to the eye. Make sure to use only one drop of Latisse on your brush even though the brush may feel dry there is medication on it. Remember that a little bit goes a long way. If your eyes get too irritated you can stop using it for a week. If your eyes are irritated and you would like to continue using it make a visit to your ophthalmologist who will prescribe eye drops to help with the irritation.
