Went in to get my gynecomastia removed. Doctor was great, surgery was quick and easy, no pain during or after surgery, fast recovery, little to no scarring. 10/10 experience I definitely trust this doctor to do any surgery.
My husband and I both decided to get facial plastic surgery. As a doctor myself, I obviously did my research for our needs. My main concerns were graduation from a upper class US med school and educational foundation and board certification, as well as experience. I didn’t want someone too young due to lack of experience and I didn’t want someone too old due to “set in their ways mentality” and not open to the new procedures that are being learned around the globe. I know that new medical advances and technologies are shared with other countries who also specialise in plastic surgery procedures; (think Brazil, Korea and Europe) and I wanted someone who was well versed with the updated techniques and medical advances. Dr. Ivey ticked all of those boxes. What I didn’t know at the time when choosing Dr. Ivey, is that he is also the most down to earth, nicest “guy next door” and has the most incredible diagnostic eye for his surgery decisions and recommendations. For instance, I had assumed due to my “tired eyes” that having a lower bleph would be the procedure that I needed, but upon our consultation, Simon shared why he thought that a lateral brow lift combined with under eye laser would address my concerns better. He also suggested a buccal fat pad removal to improve the overall look- something that I hadn’t even thought of, which is surprising, since it is the area of my specialty! The cost difference was negligible and he shared why this combination would suit me, in a caring and non-demeaning manner. My husband was scheduled for a necklift. We were both happy with the consultation and procedure from a surgery aspect; (there are different ways to address a necklift). But the most incredible thing happened while I was waiting for my husbands surgery- a nurse came out and informed me that Dr. Ivey decided to proceed a little differently and it would lead to a better outcome, however, it would take longer than planned. Wow- that to me (as a doctor), was actually reassuring, because it meant that once my husband was “opened up”, Dr. Ivey could see more of what he was actually dealing with and wasn’t afraid to change his way of pre-planned thinking and instead addressed the concerns that he saw in front of him and acted accordingly. Some patient’s wives may have been intimidated by this note from the nurse, but I smiled inside, knowing that my husband was going to have a superior outcome. Having a surgeon willing to not only go that extra mile for the better outcome for the patient, but to also not be afraid to change course of action once the whole picture is in view is paramount. Dr. Ivey clearly has his patient’s needs in first place. In my opinion, if you are thinking of having your holiday in Hawaii and having facial plastic surgery too, then go the extra step and book your flight to Maui with Dr. Ivey and his professional team. You won’t be disappointed. We are currently on day 3 and 4 of our surgeries and the followup aftercare is as good as I could imagine. Dr. Ivey has seen us daily thus far for post op checks and has re-wrapped and made sure each step of our healing process is in order. He has been clear on specific instructions and what to expect next. I will post photos soon of our journey. I have had literally, no bruising and am off my paid meds on day 3, (except OTC). Such a lovely experience! I didn’t mention earlier, but we flew in from out of town, so I had to correspond via email and phone many times prior to our consult. Both Dr. Ivey and Gretchen were very attentive to all of our needs, from specific medical questions, to pricing for different procedures as well as time changes that came up prior to to our scheduled appointment due to airline reschedules. I’m so thrilled I decided to go with Dr. Ivey for my scar revision/ mini TT. I was calling the different plastic surgeons on my island and in my town. Dr. Ivey’s patient coordinator Gretchen was the first one to call me back and she made me feel so comfortable. I decided to get a consultation. I’m so glad I did because this Dr. and his staff made me feel confident that I was choosing the right surgeon to fix my ugly C section scar that I’ve had for almost 22 years. Dr. Ivey provided me with the most beautiful and thoughtful care and consideration. My initial consultation was to clean up my jaw- line. After a very thorough review of my face and jawline, he recommended a few procedures that would complete my objective. I never felt any pressure or up-sale from him but I could definitely see how I would benefit from his recommendation. Especially the lip lift. Wow ! I am so happy I listened to him. Dr. Ivey is amazing always he and his entire staff are so courteous and kind professional and Dr Ivey has a solution and plan and goes way beyond any expectations to make sure your results are better than you could have dreamed. I wanted to look a less haggard and the 10 years older than I am that I was looking - but I didn't want it look LOOK like I had undergone a major Plastic surgery procedure. Dr Ivey immediately suggested the Mini facelift with neck lipo and lip lift. All doe in his office! The procedure was quick and the results and recovery were very fast! I changed the color f my hair and people kept saying you looks so good how do you stay so young!! It is perfect just what I wanted. The lip lift is amazing and I am so glad it was added in! It appears you have fat excess (bags) in addition to prominent tear trough area. In my practice I treat this with removal of the fat bags through an incision inside the eyelid (no visible scar), along with fat grafting to the tear trough area and sometimes cheek. In your case I would finish this with a CO2 laser tightening treatment for the skin of the lower lid. The method creates a very smooth and attractive cheek/lower lid contour.
Fat grafting using your own fat is possible. I personally try to avoid hyaluronic acid fillers in most cases. If there is skin laxity and you like the way it looks when elevated back/up with your fingers, then a lifting procedure may be necessary. I perform many male face and neck lifts and the incisions heal very well in most patients. You are young - but there is no set age to determine when a facelift is warranted and it is a decision you must make with your surgeon.
In my practice I perform all of my facelifts as if I was performing them under a local. What I mean by this is I use a numbing solution in all areas of the face I am operating on - even if I am under a deep IV sedation. I perform now about 1/3 under a pure local with oral sedation and 2/3 with a total IV sedation. I prefer total IV sedation. This avoids an endotracheal tube and avoids anesthesia gases that can often be nauseating. The reason I prefer this is the amount of drugs (in my practice propofol, precidex, ketamine) required is less and I feel it is safer and has less risk of DVT than general anesthesia. Under an IV sedation I can easily and more comfortably complete the sometimes long facial rejuvenation procedures. A patient can have some choice in the matter of course - but you must defer to the surgeon (and the anesthesia provider) to see what they are comfortable with.
Provided you are medically fit for surgery a facelift is quite possible. A dermatology/skin care consult may be warranted first in order to get your skin ready - but hard to tell without photos.
Hard to tell based on the picture what the issue may be. A facelift may not be worth the recovery. Its possible some neck and jawline lipo, +/- buccal fat excision could help define your jaw without a full lift. Again - I really can't tell much from a single frontal view picture.
