It may be beneficial to redo the crown because once an access opening(hole ) is made it will weaken the crown- how much depends on the size of the hole and the material the crown is made from- also replacing the crown will not affect the root canal treatment- but a new buildup or post and core may be needed once removed- - the crown needs to be removed to evaluate this- also you should be aware of any shape changes you may want and discuss this prior to staring Dr Tomack
Porcelain crowns that are not opaqued will allow the underlying tooth color to show thru- opaque is built into the crown to block out unwanted colors- and it is very challenging to get the color of one front crown to blend in with the surrounding teeth- this is why we have a lab technician nearby we send our patients to for custom shading- there are multiple choices in the type of porcelain for which this must be determined to get the best result- without the use of a metal substructure
Tell the dentist you do not like the shape of the temporary crown- and that you want it remade to match the adjacent tooth- when this is acceptable then the final permanant crown can be made to mimic the temporary crown using photos and guides- - the final crown should also be tried in to evaluate the shape- color and bite- once accepted by you it can be cemented with a final cement .
