Of course, it never hurts to ask if insurance will cover the costs but given the current state of health insurance most surgeons don't go through insurance. They may be able to cover the hernia repair costs but Diastasis Recti repairs are typically not covered by insurance. Your best approach ,in my opinion, is to find a high skilled and trained cosmetic surgeon who can plicate your diastasis and and fix your hernia at the same time. With me we call this a modified extended Tummy tuck, which would include the repair of Diastasis recti and hernia.

Hello! A great way in avoiding unwanted results is to look thoroughly through the surgeons before and after photos. Look and multiple different doctors as well! The before and after photos can tell you a lot about what a surgeon finds acceptable. Use these photos in choosing which surgeon would have your umbilicus in the right position. There for, open tummy tuck surgery patients have to understand that there is much less control when doing it through laparoscopic.

Hello! so, you are very slender and fit with little excess skin but you would be an excellent candidate for for a modified extended tummy tuck with hernia repair with inclusion of plication of Diastasis Recti. This procedure is an all in one to fix, Diastasis Recti and Hernia.

Hello! In my opinion ,based on the information given, the fact that you have a reoccurring Diastasis Recti plus you now have two hernias that have not been cause by any trauma or pregnancy it suggests that your surgeon used dissolving sutures or that your sutures tore through your fascia and resulted in your diastasis coming back and caused the two hernias. My opinion on the mesh, the one used for laparoscopic hernia tends to be well tolerated by patients. In all, you can go back to the same surgeon and ask how he plicated the Diastasis Recti and if he would redo your tummy tuck with redo plication & hernia repair but it is less likely insurance will cover this procedure.

Hello!

Here is the beauty of doing a tummy tuck, with the right surgeon, you can fix a diastasis recti and a hernia while doing a tummy tuck. Usually during a routine tummy tuck that requires a diastasis recti and hernia repair we will begin the tummy tuck, tighten the muscles from the diastasis repair, repair the hernia then proceed to finish the tummy tuck like usual. But, before doing so, always look at the doctors before and after photos, how long they have been in practice, and their experience.

Hello! There absolutely is a difference in results when you do a laparoscopic approach as apposed to a tummy tuck approach. The laparoscopic approach is not going to repair the loose skin so as a result you may end up with unappealing or unwanted results.

Hello! We can't distinguish if there is a scar on your top quadrant. But, if it is not a scar and it's just stretch marks then here are some options for you. Although you are slender you do have some stretch marks and due to having 3 children i could recommend doing a modified extended tummy tuck where we would plicate your diastasis recti and repair your umbilical hernia all in one surgery. If you are looking to fix your umbilical hernia without having to do a tummy tuck i would suggest finding a laparoscopic general surgeon who can fix your umbilical hernia without going in for a tummy tuck.

A short answer to this complex issue and question. First things first, we don't know if your doctor used absorbable sutures or permanent sutures. If they used absorbable sutures that could cause the the Diastasis recti repair to undo. Plus, you had two laparoscopic surgeries after your tummy tuck. When performing laparoscopic procedures they inflate your abdomen with CO2 to create exposure. This could have stretched your abdomen hence stretching your diastasis recti.

Hello! Our advice is when you consult with your surgeon, ask how they would address your diastasis recti and umbilical hernia. I personally perform this combination of surgeries routinely. I seldom need to use mesh to repair a hernia and do it only if it is necessary. Also, if done correctly, the only way a Diastasis Recti will come undone is if you become pregnant or have massive weight gain.

Diastasis recti repair - advice? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Hello, based on the provided image and information this sounds like you have an incisional hernia and not Diastasis Recti. This was able to be concluded due to the fact that when you consulted with the general surgeon they indicated that your bowl is large and doesn't move. For better reference, diastasis rectic is not a hernia. A hernia is when there there is a tear. Diastasis Recti occurs from stretching of the linea alba.

I had an amazing experience from start to finish. I had a TT/lipo about 2 years ago and was left with unwanted skin. I was so disappointed. Did my research and I am so glad I found this doctor. Earlobe Repair

Had a bilateral earlobe repair done on me back in October

Dr. Rodriguez performed a bilateral earlobe repair on me back in October and my overall experience has been great. The whole team made my experience a good one while in the operating room. The pain was very minimal during the numbing process and I felt no pain at all while the surgery was taking place. The recovery was tolerable too. I only had slight discomfort for the first two days, but Tylenol helped so much in relieving the pain almost completely. It is now December and my ears are still healing, but look great. Overall, my experience with Dr. Rodriguez and his team has been amazing.
