Either would work although it is best to start with sclerotherapy.  Given your history a basic ultrasound would first determine whether or not you need additional treatment first - if not then sclerotherapy would be the next step.  It varies but 3-6 sessions are the average.

This often results when blood is trapped in veins that have been treated.  It can resolve on its own but will go away faster if you have your vein doctor drain the blood- it's a very simple, virtually painless fix.

I understand your concern!  For more details you need to see a vein expert who can do an ultrasound evaluation on your veins and discuss treatment options.  This is an easy fix, so don't worry too much!

Yes those are spider veins that are turning into varicose veins.  The latter are simply enlarged spider veins.  They tend to get worse over time, especially with prolonged standing.  I agree with using compression stockings for symptom relief but you would benefit from additional evaluation and treatment.
