I started with laser for removal of sun damage and moved on to Sculptra to balance out my face. The gradual results are terrific. With no down time it was a great choice .
I always thought I would have a face lift at 50, but after consulting with Dr Emily Altman I decided another route, Sculptra. This facial injectable replaces collagen that is lost through aging and gives you back a more youthful looking you. I chose the Sculptra procedure for two reasons, first it was non-invasive procedure that took about an hour from start to finish at the doctor’s office and secondly, it let me look like myself as oppose to the fakeness that can be associated with a facelift. The aftercare is minimal, massaging the areas injected five times a day for about five minutes for about five days after the injections. There was minor discomfort afterwards from the injections, minimal swelling, but I went about my business the rest of the day with no issues and the next morning I felt fine. I highly recommend Dr. Emily Altman’s practice as I have not only experienced the benefit of the Sculptra but also laser skin tightening (for the neck), Botox & Juvederm injections. She is my secret fountain of youth.
was always sure that at 50 I was going to have plastic surgery, however concerned that I would not look like myself. Under Dr. Altman's care we talked about a lot of options that were available, non-invasive safe procedures. That would not involve surgery and allow me to go about my normal life. The laser skin tightening I have had performed on my neck has exceeded my expectations. My neck looks youthful again, non sagging, lines or wrinkles. It was painless and the only aftercare was to stay out of the sign and not apply certain creams or chemicals to the area for a period of time. Dr. Altman educated me before the procedure and spoke to me as human being one on one with respect and concern that all my questions were answered extensively. During the procedure I was constantly told of what was transpiring and sent home with full directions. This was an outstanding experience!!!
I wanted to do a laser treatment for sun damage/brown spots on my hands. Over the years more and more "freckles" were coming out and making my hands look older than I liked. I was concerned about the procedure having some discomfort, but that was quickly remedied by a topical anesthetic and Dr. Altman's caring to make sure I was comfortable through the treatment. The spots do darken and then will slough off. It's great that with this treatment there is no "down time". I am thrilled that I won't have these spots anymore.
It's true that it's not recommended to have any laser procedures and particularly numbing medications applied to the skin when pregnant, but here are two points to consider. At two weeks pregnant, the embryo is just implanting into the uterine wall. Also laser light penetrates only a short distance into the skin and would not reach the baby. I would talk to your OB/GYN but the chances that your baby was harmed in any way are extremely small. I recommend not having any more laser treatments until 6-12 months after delivery.
There can be quite a bit of swelling after injection of hyaluronic acid fillers into the lips for 3-4 days. Once the swelling is reduced, then you should be able to see what your lips will look like for the next 9-12 months. If I am working just with the lips, I start with one syringe, particularly accenting the "pillows" of the lips, the lip line and the philtrum. For most of my patients that is enough to improve the appearance of the lips. If needed, we can always add more later. The most important aspect of cosmetic procedures is that the result should look natural, not "done."
Let's address the filler question first. If the intent is to put 4 cc of filler into lips, that is excessive and will look unnatural. The goal of any cosmetic procedure is to look natural. There is never any need for 4 cc of filler into lips. As far as Botox is concerned, how much to use does depend on the size and strength of the muscles that are being injected. However, if you have not had any Botox injections previously, better to start with less. More can be added if the effect is not sufficient. On the other hand, nothing can be done for 2-3 months if too much Botox is used. You don't need "frozen," you need relaxed and smooth. I have not used more than 50 units for the entire upper face at one time. Start slowly. And most importantly, consult with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with proper training and experience in doing Botox and fillers. True experts are never going to try and sell you all they can at one time. They will consider what is best for you first and foremost.
Botox needs to be injected into the muscle in order to exert its action. So the masseter injections have to be deep enough to reach the muscle. It takes time to see the results of masseter injections in slimming down jawline contours, sometimes several months. Some patients with large masseter muscles may need repeated injections during those several months. Schedules vary. So it would be too soon to look for results of Botox injections of masseter muscles at two weeks post injections.
The highest percentage of hydroquinone (HQ) in topical medications that are produced in the US is 4%. To get a higher percentage, your doctor would need to have the medication made by a compounding pharmacy. Care must be taken with higher percentage HQ creams, as there are numerous reports of paradoxical hyperpigmentation, called exogenous ochronosis, that can occur with prolonged use of higher percentage HQ creams. Please have your treatment monitored by a board certified dermatologist.
