After earning his medical degree from Duke University and training in plastic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the top-ranked programs in the country, Dr. Ruane joined St. Clair Plastic Surgery, where he specializes in the full spectrum of cosmetic, as well as breast reconstructive, surgery.
As a 36-year-old woman who has always dreamed of having breasts but never took the leap—meeting Dr. Ruane changed everything for me. I work in healthcare, so I’ve seen it all: the good, the bad, and everything in between. But Dr. Ruane isn’t just a “good doctor”—he’s a unicorn. Truly one of a kind. From the very first consultation, I felt heard, respected, and completely at ease. Dr. Ruane was incredibly patient and professional. He took the time to understand what I wanted and gave thoughtful, honest guidance. His bedside manner is second to none, and his skill? Unmatched. The results? Absolutely beautiful. I finally feel like me. Confident, radiant, and completely at home in my body. My new size fits my frame so naturally that most people assume I was born this way. That’s how seamless and artful his work is. I’ve already recommended Dr. Ruane to friends and colleagues—and I’ll continue to do so. If you’re ready to invest in yourself and become the version of you that you’ve always envisioned, there is no better hands—literally and figuratively—to be in. To Dr. Ruane and his incredible team: thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my dream a reality. I am forever grateful.
Dr. Ruane is not only an amazing surgeon but also a really amazing person. He is so kind and reassuring. I was terrified for surgery but felt at ease as soon as he came in on surgery morning. I am not sure how he did it but I had minimal pain (only took 2 pain pills total) and what I would consider an easy recovery. I felt pretty much back to normal by day 3 post op but still took it easy, as he directed. My results at 6 weeks out are better than I could have imagined and I would recommend Dr. Ruane to anyone (and have done so to many already!)
Dr. Ruane is the GOAT!! He is beyond kind and reassuring through the entire process and believe me it is a process! I got a BA and he provided the greatest care! He is kind and cares very much about his work and final product! I am a tuff patient (very indecisive) and Dr. Ruane never lost his patience and kindness with me. If I could describe his bed side manor in one word I would say "gentle" . He gave me the room to change my mind and work through exactly what I was looking for! He delivered!!! He gave me exactly what I was looking for!
It's truly challenging to put into words the exceptional talent and compassionate nature of this remarkable plastic surgeon. After an exhaustive decade-long search and consultations with plastic surgeons both within and outside the United States, I'm immensely grateful to have found Dr. Ruane as my plastic surgeon. He is nothing short of exceptional. Dr. Ruane epitomizes the pinnacle of care, possessing unparalleled surgical skills, medical expertise, and surgical proficiency. Furthermore, his kindness and empathy surpass that of any plastic surgeon I've ever encountered. What truly sets him apart is his unwavering dedication to his patients, particularly those battling breast cancer. With Dr. Ruane, you'll undoubtedly find yourself in the most capable hands throughout your treatment journey. Your experience will be one of profound satisfaction, just as mine has been. Dr. Ruane's exceptional staff also deserve mention. They are a testament to their genuine concern for patients and their unwavering passion for their work, mirroring the ethos of Dr. Ruane himself.
I cannot recommend Dr. Ruane enough. I initially saw him for a breast lift which he completed 08/2022 and I was very satisfied with the results and care I received from the doctor and his staff. I have since had a tummy tuck (12/2022) and arm lift (05/2023) and my results are better than I could have imagined. I recommend him to anyone in the Pittsburgh area who is seeking a skilled, caring, surgeon whose results speak for themselves.
December 8, 2021, I heard the words that nobody wants to hear...you have breast cancer. I was a candidate for a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. On March 31, 2022, I had both procedures done at the same time. When I had my consultation with Dr. Ruane, I was uncertain what the procedure entailed. He exceeded my expectations with how he explained everything in detail and was so compassionate as he knew my diagnosis. He spoke to me with the utmost respect. I am so thankful that I chose to have the reconstructive surgery, it made me feel whole again after having the mastectomy. The implants were difficult to adapt to at first but with time I became more comfortable. Dr. Ruane listened to my concerns and addressed them accordingly. I had the first implants removed and new ones placed with fat grafting. I was anxious to see the results after surgery and when I was cleared to remove the bandages, I cried tears of joy. My breasts look perfect!! I had my follow up appointment today and could not be more pleased with the outcome!! In addition to Dr. Ruane, the office staff are outstanding!! Very friendly and accommodating. The wait time in the waiting room is under 5 minutes every time! I would highly recommend the practice as well as the procedure!!
I can not say enough good things about Dr. Ruane. If you are looking for a fantastic dr you have found him. Dr. Ruane is seriously a MASTER at his craft. I came to him with a botched surgery and he completely gave me back my confidence. When looking at my chest you'd never be able to tell that one they are fake and two that they are a reconstruction after a double mastectomy. Truly an artist. Not only is he a great surgeon he and his entire staff are so kind and accommodating. The receptionists, nurses, and his colleagues are all wonderful. I couldn't recommend Dr. Ruane enough. Wish I had before and after pictures because I am not exaggerating; perfection!!!
Dr Ruane is the definition of a true professional and an artist. He and his staff made me feel so comfortable from the moment I walked into the office. I asked for his opinion on the procedures he felt would give me the best results and he answered honestly. He didn’t try to sell me on extra unnecessary services. I booked the same day and had my surgery about 6 weeks later. I also had a hernia repair completed at the same time by a general surgeon and the coordination between offices was seamless. I received clear pre-op and post-op instructions and never felt abandoned. Dr Ruane came to see me in my hospital room and checked in on me multiple times during the following week. I am BLOWN AWAY by my results - and equally as pleased with the care I’ve received. He has been personable, available and compassionate throughout the whole process. I love going into the office!! At the time I’m writing this review I’m only 6 weeks post op, I can only imagine how I’ll look at the 6 month mark. I only wish I had done this sooner. I am so grateful for the opportunity to improve my quality of life and for the positive experience Dr Ruane has provided me.
Dr. Ruane is absolutely amazing. I’ve never felt so comfortable with someone. He’s honest, straight forward, and very personable. You’re never just a number. He becomes family. Other than a great experience my breasts and stomach are beyond my expectations. After having 6 children I’ve never been happier with myself.
I had a mommy makeover by Dr. Ruane with abdominoplasty and breast augmentation. This was combined with an umbilical hernia repair by a local general surgeon. I’m thrilled with my results (pics are 9 months postop). From my first consultation, Dr. Ruane provided thorough information about the procedure as well as the opportunity to view his prior outcomes with patients with a similar build. I left feeling encouraged about what he could achieve and confident in his abilities. I even canceled the other plastics consult I had scheduled and set up my surgery with Dr. Ruane. When I met with the general surgeon (who works with all the plastic surgeons in the area), he raved, “Eddie’s the shit. He’s the Sydney Crosby of Plastic Surgery.” On surgery day, Dr. Ruane’s genuine bedside manner put me at ease. He called multiple times throughout my postop course to check in and see if I had any questions. He also encouraged me to call or text if I needed anything. Now for my results. I mainly wanted the tummy tuck for the diastasis recti repair. And it did not disappoint; my belly was instantly flat. But having the extra skin and stretch marks removed looked better than what I expected. And I think that Dr Ruane’s way of doing belly buttons looks most natural. It kind of looks like the Star Trek logo; naturally sloped on the bottom. With regards to the breast aug, he took measurements and recommended a size he thought would look best on my frame. I wanted a natural look and under clothes, I feel this size looks very appropriate. Overall, I don’t think I could have gotten better results with anyone else. If you are on the fence about the surgery, go for it! If you are deciding on your surgeon, I highly recommend Dr Ruane!
It would help to have a photo also while standing, but your issue of implant lateralization is a common one. It should be treatable with repairing/tightening your implant capsules on the sides and/or placing slightly wider implants. In-person examination would be required in order to devise the plan that would best address your concerns and meet your goals.
You don’t appear to need a breast lift, and so I would recommend implants to add fullness to your breasts. You could opt for low-plus or moderate profile implants to ensure a natural look. Hope this helps, and I recommend in-person consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to best achieve your goals.
Your overall health is more important than any specific age or BMI, but 45 years old is certainly not too old for a mommy makeover. BMI of 30 also should be safe to proceed, although in-person examination is always necessary to confirm this. You just need to make certain that your weight is stable and close to your goal, any medical conditions are under good control, and you quit nicotine if smoking/vaping. I recommend that you consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss further. Hope this helps!
You do have lateralized nipples and wide spacing between your breasts. The key is that you require a wide base diameter implant to narrow your cleavage while also providing lateral fullness to prevent further lateralization of your nipples. The question about profile then comes down to your size goals. While in-person examination would be necessary to verify your breast dimensions, I would estimate that you would require a roughly 300cc moderate profile implant, 400cc moderate-plus profile, or 500cc high profile implant.
Textured implants were initially touted as having a lower risk of capsular contracture, but this has since been proven false. Textured implants do not have a lower risk of capsular contracture, they feel firm and unnatural, and they also place you at risk of developing a lymphoma called BIA-ALCL around the implant. You should have a smooth, round implant placed under the pec muscle to lower your risk of recurrent contracture.
