I've suffered with large breasts as long as I can remember! My GP finally told me it's time to get serious about having a reduction when my back and neck pain worsened and I developed a painful rash underneath my breasts. I had also started to experience numbness in my arms that was ruled out as being attributable to any cause other than the weight of my breasts pulling on the nerves in my shoulders. At age 50 and wearing a 42DDD (sometimes larger cup depending on the bra) I needed help. The final straw was shopping for a dress for my only daughter's wedding in 2019. I found what I thought was the perfect dress! The bodice was slightly off the shoulder and when I looked in the full mirror, all I could see was the deep grooves in the tops of my shoulders. I eventually found another dress, and the day was perfectly beautiful, but part of my mind couldn't help but think about the perfect Mother of the Bride dress that "should have been" In February 2020, I started the search for a PS who would accept my insurance to perform a reduction. Finding none in my immediate area I traveled just over an hour to have a consult at a major teaching hospital in Albany, NY. I left the appointment discouraged and disheartened... feeling totally dismissed. After a few more months, I found Dr. Hargrave and my experience with him and his staff has been amazing so far! He listened to me and I immediately knew I was finally in good hands. The request for insurance approval took a couple weeks to submit (thank you Covid) but was approved within 2 business days! My surgery is scheduled for October 8th, and even though I'm nervous I'm excited that I may finally have some (literal) weight lifted off my shoulders! Updated on 19 Sep 2020: Surgery jitters are starting to set in! I've waited so long for this and now that it's so close, I'm not sure if I'm more excited or more nervous... I received a "Surgery Present" package from my daughter and son-in-law the other day. Inside was a 3-pack of front zip bras lol. I haven't seen either of them in close to a year (they live on the west coast and I'm on the east) so knowing they were thinking of my comfort after surgery was so sweet. I've acquired a wedge pillow and treated myself to some comfy new bed pillows so that I can sleep more easily on my back, and my cozy flannel sheets are ready to go on my bed since October nights are COLD in the northeast. I thankfully managed to find a substitute willing to cover a 2 week medical leave (practically a miracle now that schools are back in session with Covid still causing havoc), and once I pass my preop evaluation and Covid test I'll be good to go! Updated on 13 Oct 2020: 3 DPO and overall doing well! Pretty confident Dr Hargrave got me from an overflowing DDD/F to what will be a nice, perky C. Pain not as bad as I thought it would be and is easily managed with ibuprofen during the day. Taking prescription pain pill only at bedtime. The bruising and swelling look pretty scary yet, but I'm sure that will improve as I heal. Best part was walking up with NO DRAINS! So glad I don't have to deal with those. If you're still on the fence about having a BR, get off it and run, don't walk to a PS! I had relief from my neck and back pain immediately! Updated on 29 Aug 2021: I can honestly say that I've never felt more comfortable in my own skin! My recovery has had it's ups and downs but every hiccup was handled quickly and skillfully by Dr Hargrave and his amazing staff! How do you adequately thank someone who literally changed your life in such a magnificent way? You let them know how grateful you are and then you go out and live the beautiful life you were born to live! Thank you Dr Hargrave, Kate, Dorie and everyone at PS Group! You are the best!
I've been a patient of Dr Hargrave for over 2 years now, first started after a car accident that resulted in a rhinoplasty. Second surgery was a year later, had abdominoplasty, lipo in my back, thighs, chin. I've lost quite a bit of weight after the tummy tuck, so this coming spring I'm getting a neck/face lift. I love his work! He gives realistic expectations, healing times, his entire staff are a joy to work with. If he believes something will not look good, he won't push the service just to make a buck. I've seen work of other doctors in the area, none of them come close to the work that Dr Hargrave & his staff offers his patients.
How do say THANK YOU to someone who has changed your life? The way you feel, present yourself, confidence level, times of sheer happiness, looking at life in a positive way, doing activities you've never done before, being able to look at your body in the mirror and actually smile....THIS is what Dr. Hargrave has done for me!! Dr. Hargrave did lipo in my belly and sides and a tummy tuck in addition to lipo in my inner thighs and a thigh lift. For Dr. Hargrave, it was just another surgery; for me it was a life changer! Elective surgery in itself could be scary which is what almost held me back from doing it. But Dr. Hargrave had taken away every ounce of fear I ever had, moved forward and kept progressing towards making me look amazing. He went above and beyond for me for what seemed like my endless questions, concerns, my moments of whining, crying and overreacting...but NEVER once did he give up on me and vice versa! We work great as a team - for the sake of a newer better image of ME!! Every office visit has me being driven 2 hours in total. It's been a long road with healing, waiting, anticipating, etc... but Dr. Hargrave and his staff has been there holding my hand every step of the way. The support system there is incomparable! I truly believe for Dr. Hargrave, it's not just a job - he actually cares about what you look like and the end results as much as you do!! Dr. H really cares and that shows in his positive attitude, his handiwork, sincerity and compassion in ALL that he does!! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hargrave!
I have been going to Dr Hargrave for many years for fillers and mole removal. At the age of "sexty-6" I decided I needed to have my jowls and turkey neck gone! I trust Dr H 100% and on October 17th I had neck/face rhytidectomy (face lift), and lower eye blepharoplasty along with some fat transfer and some lipo. After only a month, I can see such a difference, amazing. I was recently mistaken for my younger sister, who is 11 years younger! I would recommend Dr H for ANY procedure no matter how small (fillers or mole removal) or large (face lift).
I live in a small town in NY about 90 miles from Albany. Over the last 3 years I have lost a total of 110 lbs and I had a lot of excess skin and a very saggy buttocks, stretch marks and all around aging sag that I was unhappy with. Going in I didn’t have any idea of the results I would get, looking at what a surgeon had to work with I wasn’t super optimistic to be honest. At my initial free consultation I met with Dr. Hargrave and he was very upfront and honest about what he could do for me and the procedures he’d need to perform to get me as close to my desired results as possible. He was realistic and funny and really great to talk to. I felt comfortable standing naked chatting about my body while he drew on me with a sharpie. Leaving his office I felt confident that I wanted him to do my surgery and tried to schedule it for the following week, but couldn’t get the OR time. I had a big trip planned and planned the surgery for when I got back. In retrospect I am happy that it worked out that way since the recovery has been more extensive than I had anticipated. I met with Dr. Hargrave one more time to discuss what would be done, and again it was a very positive experience. He didn’t BS me about my results and was blunt and realistic which I appreciated greatly and this allowed me to put my trust in him. On the morning of the surgery, he sat down with me to once again to go over what he’d be doing, drew on me a final time and we were off to the OR. Today marks 4 weeks since the surgery. I had a tummy tuck, butt and thigh lift. I have had 3 follow up appointments, first to remove the drains and then to check how I was healing, the last one I had included a lymphatic massage which Joanie is wonderful! During the last month, the office has called to check on me numerous times, which really makes you feel cared about and not just a patient. So...results! Wow! Dr. Hargrave is a miracle worker! My tummy is smooth and flat, I have abs and my stretch marks are gone! My new belly button is adorable. My thighs are no longer sagging and I’ll be able to wear shorts next summer without my fat and skin falling out of them! My butt is what I am most excited about as before I didn’t have one and now...I have a firm, rounded and clearly defined derrière. I never in my life thought I would look so good. I’m not going to lie, this recovery has been rough and painful. If you’re considering this surgery, make sure you have help at home and enough time to heal properly, you do not want to push yourself and mess up your results! I personally recommend a month. My overall experience was better than I ever would have expected and I highly recommend Dr. Hargrave and the Plastic Surgery Group.
Dr. Hargrave was very helpful and understanding with my anxiety about the procedure. He also listened to me when I told him what I was looking for and more importantly, what I wasn't looking for. He took the time to discuss everything with me, while never once trying to "sell" me. My final result is exactly what I hoped for and I highly recommend Dr. Hargrave. Don't wait!
When I was in need of plastic surgery, I was advised to consult with Dr. Douglas Hargrave. I found him to be all that we want our physicians to be, personable, considerate, kind and extremely competent. My surgery was done promptly, effortlessly and produced an amazingly effective and surprisingly invisible result. His attention to me post surgery has been remarkable. I am grateful to him and his staff. I am pleased to recommend him without qualification of any nature. He is a amazing Doctor.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer and opted to have a bilateral mastectomy. Dr. Hargrave creates beasts that are exactly like my previous breasts only better (no sagging ). Dr. Hargrave is professional, caring and talented.
My experience with dr Hargrave was great.im loving the new me I told all my friends about dr Hargrave’s work ,they love the work that he did .i will recommend dr Hargrave he is an amazing dr he made sure the work was done right.i will be back again soon...
The effects of gravity on the breast are unrelenting. No one past the age of 40 has to be reminded of this. The ligaments that keep the breast in position during ones youth and early adulthood are called Cooper’s ligaments. These stretch as time passes and anything that you can do to minimize this is only for the better. Wearing a bra even while sleeping is a good idea.
Hi Nina,The optimal time for a second ahdominal surgery after a hysterectomy depends on a number of factors. Assuming that the wounds have healed well, it would be a good idea to wait a couple of months to recover from that surgery. Perhaps more importantly, I would suggest that you have this surgery when you have reached the best weight that you can realistically achieve. If you think you can get back down to that lower weight that you once had, that would be ideal. If your weight loss efforts stall out and plateau short of that , that is ok too. The point is, you should consider this surgery when your weight has stabilized and you feel well recovered from your hysterectomy. You might want to consider a consultation for further advice on this any time now.Regards,Douglas Hargrave, MD
Hi,The most impressive of your photos are the ones with the side view. Unfortunately, we don't have a side view from early post op. There does seem to be a recurrence of the shape that you had preoperatively. One wonders whether or not the muscle repair might have failed. As far as swelling is concerned, it is true that all of the swelling has not resolved, but also probably true that you won't see a dramatic change in your shape as the rest of the swelling resolves. It would be helpful at this point to check back with your surgeon and see what he has to say.Good luck, Douglas Hargrave, MD
What you are experiencing is fairly common after tummy tuck surgery. The pubic area is dependent to the abdomen and the much of the swelling that occurs after tummy tuck surgery will settle in the groin. If any additional procedures were performed to that area, such as liposuction, there will be additional swelling that follows. Normally, this will dissipate gradually as time goes by. By three months from the date of surgery, much of this should be gone. This is something that you should discuss with your surgeon if it persists.Regards,Douglas Hargrave
A donout mastopexy is an effective way to lift a breast if the nipple doesn't have to move very far. It would appear in your case that the nipple still has a ways to go to get it situated over the breast mound properly. Expecting that the implant will drop into the lower pole of the breast now might not be realistic. I would recommend that you return to your surgeon and share your concerns. There are additional techniques that he/she might want to consider to provide you with the best possible outcome.Regards,Douglas Hargrave,MD
