I was vey nervous about getting new veneers but Dr Dory and staff made it so much easier. He replaced my old veneers and made my smile amazing. He is a perfectionist who has a great eye.. I can’t say enough about the whole experience. His temporaries are even beautiful.
In your case there are several considerations needed to discuss prior to deciding on treatment. Importantly, are you looking for a drastic smile makeover or do you like your smile but just want to address certain issues. Braces would certainly help you achieve more ideal tooth size. If you don't want the braces again and want to keep it simple and conservative cosmetic bonding and tooth contouring might do the trick! A dentist skilled in cosmetic dentistry who performs these kind of procedures can make a cosmetic preview directly in your mouth (takes only a few minutes). This actually lets you see what your smile can look like prior to committing to anything permanent. Having this done first will help you confidently decide which way is best to fix your smile. Veneers can chip for many reasons. Grinding of your teeth or an having an uneven bite are common causes for the early demise of porcelain veneers. For the short term the veneer should be ok. Try to be careful chewing in that area until you can have it checked out. If the veneer is intact and the fracture is small enough just polishing out the rough area might be all that is needed. It is important though to see a dentist asap to make sure that things are stable and not getting worse! Good luck and hope you enjoy your vacation.Thank you Dr Dory Stutman DDS AAACD FICOI
Short answer..Bonding composite veneers can be a wonderful procedure but only in the hands of a skilled cosmetic dentist as it is very technique sensitive. There are certain short term cost savings also. Most dentists would prefer porcelain or ceramic over composite for veneering their own teeth as long as it is done gently by removing the minimal amount of tooth structure needed for an excellent result. In a nutshell I like to use the analogy of (composite is like tupperware while ceramic is like fine china)Hope this helpsDory Stutman AAACD FICOI
From what I can see from the photos you would most likely benefit from porcelain veneers. The central incisors do look too large in comparison to the adjacent teeth. You need to visit an experienced cosmetic dentist who can help you visualize what the final result can look like. This is an important step so you can have an idea what to expect prior to starting the treatment. The dentist can demonstrate the preview of how your veneers will appear by performing one or more of the below.1) Temporarily applying tooth colored material directly to your teeth and shaping it to the intended result then letting you view it. or2) Having a skilled cosmetic lab make something similar to the above for you to try in over your teeth and then view it.This will be made from a previous impression.or3) Cosmetic imaging of your smile using photoshop to preview the what the various options would look like. Each of these has its advantages and none are foolproof. But they would certainly be a good starting point for you to learn whats best in your situation.Additionally I agree with Dr Softtouch in that you must view you potential dentists before and after pictures. Thanks Dr Dory Stutman DDS AAACD
