The goal of your pre-op assessment and exam are to assess and reduce your surgical and anesthetic risks. In addition to assessing your overall health status, the exam helps to uncover any hidden conditions that could cause problems both during and after your surgery. It will include a history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and possibly other studies such as a chest X-ray and Electrocardiogram (EKG). If you have a medical condition or a new medical condition is identified, optimization can be planned to reduce your surgical and anesthetic risks.
