Well, so far I've had excellent care, I've been well informed of the procedure about to take place. The jaw surgery will be cut in three segments ( so the jaw can be widened, narrowed... moved forwards, backwards... whatever.) during the procedure I'll be having my wisdom teeth extracted! Eek! I'm getting nervous because the clock is ticking down! So, any tips, dos/don'ts, recipes or anything to inform me to make this surgery as smooth as possible would be greatly appreciated! Updated on 19 May 2017: First day down and the procedure went well I was under for a little over 2 hours I'm feeling a lot of tightness and I'm pretty swollen but nothing too unbearable! I've been staying well hydrated and eating broth when I can the only real issue I've had is a lot of nose bleeding which the doctor said was completely normal. Updated on 20 May 2017: Swelling has peaked feel some discomfort but is not intolerable Updated on 21 May 2017: Today has been my peak day for swelling. I've had a little bit of discomfort especially under my nose. I miss being able to use Ice. Updated on 23 May 2017: Today hasn't been as bad as yesterday. Yesterday was a roller coaster of pain and discomfort. Today has gone smooth. I'm trying to slowly wing off my pain meds! Anyways I'm still pretty swollen and I've noticed yellow bruising. I also am still having nose bleeds but it's one day at a time! Updated on 24 May 2017: Today has been the toughest yet. Not sure if it's the weather or what but it was rough. I just have to remember to take it one day at a time! Updated on 26 May 2017: Doctor says everything is looking and healing well! Updated on 27 May 2017: So on my 9th day of post op I suddenly seemed like I had a boost of energy. I literally had felt like I hadn't had surgery 9 days ago... I wanted to just eat a giant slice of pizza so bad. But I did get up walk around, went to the store walked some more, went through a drive through ordered mashed potatoes and gravy, visit family AND EAT A PANCAKE.! Week 2 I'm allowed soft food such as pancakes small pasta noodles and scrambled eggs! I'm still having nose bleeds and am getting annoyed from my elastic bands but all is well one day at a time! Updated on 30 May 2017: Today, I've been having an small ache on the right side of my jaw; which I'm pretty sure is from my wisdom teeth removal. It's not like a pain, pain but, like a empty nothing is there kind of pain. Honestly, I feel like I'm back to being normal again. This surgery so far really hasn't set me back to much aside from missing work. I expected it to be much much worse! But it's a breeze so far. The only time I really feel my pain is when I first wake up in the morning! My noose bleeds have turned into just drainage with a little blood. My lip seems to have its feeling back but my cleft and nose are still numb feeling. Updated on 6 Jun 2017: This Thursday I go back to see my surgeon! Thursday will mark the end of my third week going into my fourth week post op!! Time is flying!! I do have a couple concerns about the width of my bite.. I'm supposed to be able to fit two fingers when I open up, as of now I can fit only one with a little bit of space left.. and I can't move my bottom jaw side to side (booo) I'm still swollen and I'm sure it has something to do with it and I'm sure my muscles are tight. After all I did have a major surgery! At least my nose problems seemed to be back to normal! Btw I'm still numb in my cleft, nose and a little around my nose but I can feel my lip now! (Yay!) Updated on 8 Jun 2017: So, I just got back from my 3 week post op appointment and for those of you wondering my surgeon said I'm doing great. In fact he quoted "I know I did good but, I didn't know I did this good" lol. The only concern he had was how far I can open my mouth. So he took my elastic bands off and told me to do excises. He even gave me the okay to start my braces part back! Updated on 27 Jul 2017: I'm about 10 weeks out! I've still had a little problem on opening my mouth as far as I should be able to, but I received new exercises. So, I'm improving!! Other than that I've only had problems with my memory. Random right? Apparently anesthesia has more of an effect on your body than I thought. That's also probably a side effect of planning a wedding lol. It's gotten better but I figure I'd Update with some photos Updated on 5 Sep 2017: So, I've been slacking. There's been a lot going on okay. Most days I forget I even had surgery now; well that is until someone reminds me of how much my face has changed. Awesome news... I get my braces off the Monday before my wedding (if all looks great next appointment). I still often swell just a tad like not even noticeably swollen but to me I can tell because I mean we know our bodies best. To those prepping for this surgery.... it will all be okay and in fact it will be over with soon it goes fast. Updated on 18 Sep 2017: It's been 123 days since surgery! Guess what my braces come off next week! Y'all don't understand how excited I am. I have a check up this following Wednesday with my oral surgeon.. hopefully just a quick in and out visit. So are y'all ready to see my progress after my braces?? I am! Updated on 10 Oct 2017: Okay so this will probably be my last update for awhile. I’m so happy to say my journey is over!!! I don’t regret it t all. If you feel it’s something you want go for it! It was so worth it!!!
