RHow, Damon Braces need to be thought of as another way to straighten your teeth and correct your bite. What you need to understand is that Damon is not magic and will not magically straighten your teeth any differently from other types of braces. Depending on the orthodontist's preferences, they may use different types of braces rather than Damon. In my experience, I like using Damon braces because I like the way my patient's smiles look at the end of treatment and I feel most comfortable using Damon. That's not to say that I view Damon as vastly superior, but I feel like Damon works best in my hands. Just Google "systematic review of self-ligating brackets" and you will find articles comparing self-ligating braces (which Damon is) vs. traditional braces (which require colors to hold the wire in). To sum it all up, there is no advantage of self-ligating braces other than there is less time spent in the chair and that your teeth don't stick out as far. So to answer your question, I would say that Damon Braces do work well in my hands (and plenty of other orthodontist's hands) and that your orthodontist just has preferences for another system. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
