Best laser/treatment for scarring on African American skin? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

First, you need to be on a regimen of skin lighteners, such as hydroquinone, for several weeks prior to any treatment.  Although there are numerous treatments for hyperpigmentation, I tend to avoid lasers, since the heat generated by the laser could incite more hyperpigmentation.  However, picosecond lasers are theoretically less likely to have this problem.  I tend to recommend chemical peels, ideally containing skin lighteners, followed by a light steroid cream to reduce inflammation.  Remember that any modality will likely require several treatments.

Goin on day 3 Juvederm lips, should I still ice to decrease swelling? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Continue to apply ice as tolerated.  It may take several days for the swelling to subside.  Of course, follow up with your injector if you have any concerns.

I’m very concerned with the amount of swelling and bruising I have. Do I need to worry about it being in an artery?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Usually, intravascular injection will result in blanching of the tissues due to lack of blood supply.  Your photos suggest typical bruising and swelling that might be anticipated from an injection.  Apply ice to the area as tolerated and follow up with your injector to ensure that you are healing appropriately.

Is it okay to get Botox while waiting for IVF? I'm starting another round in October.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

To my knowledge there have been no studies to validate the safety of botox in pregnancy and there is no reason to take that risk.

Should I see my same injector or go somewhere else? (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

You should make your injector aware of your concerns.  If they cannot address your concerns, consider a second opinion.

Is lumpiness after Juvederm normal? (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Consider icing the lip to reduce swelling.  Once the swelling has subsided, reassess the filler.  Filler placed too superficially may be palpable and, if it bothers you, might be reversed with hyaluronidase.

What can I do about the pain and numbness in one side of face after fillers? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It is possible that a nerve was traumatized or is being impinged upon by the filler, a known risk of facial fillers.  If there is palpable filler near the nerve foramen HA fillers might be reversed with hyaluronidase.  If the nerve was traumatized by the needle, it may take time for it to heal.  If the injection was recent, icing the area might reduce the local swelling, and medications like prednisone might be helpful to reduce inflammation around the nerve.  If the pain persists, medications like neurontin could be considered.

I am HIV positive and on medication (Truimeq). It is safe to have Juvederm filler on my cheeks without complications?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Fillers have been used for lipoatrophy associated with HIV medications for over 15 years.  Sculptra obtained FDA approval for this use in 2004.  Of course, realize that this is a medical procedure and has some inherent risk.
