Mona Lisa Touch is effective for vaginal pain during intercourse due to vulvovaginal atrophy (thinning of the tissue due to lack of estrogen). This is the most common symptom experienced by patients seeking treatment with Mona Lisa Touch. Patients often complain of a burning or tearing sensation during intercourse, followed by symptoms similar to a UTI or vaginal burning and swelling afterward. The treatment works by improving the health of the tissue, promoting increased blood flow and elasticity and normalizing the pH balance. You would need to confirm your symptoms are related to atrophy first. If so, you would be a good candidate for treatment.
Mona Lisa touch laser treatment with the external laser probe has been very effective in my patient population for vulvar itching that is caused by atrophy. The external tissue is more sensitive, so we use a topical numbing cream before the treatment. You might feel some slight irritation when the numbing wears off but this generally resolves within 24 hours. Most of my patients have had relief of itching with the first treatment. Other causes of itching would need to be ruled out first. If your symptoms are caused by lack of estrogen and thinning of the tissue, you would be a great candidate for Mona Lisa Touch
