IPL uses a more scattered light vs. laser and penetrates into the second layer of your skin, known as the dermis.  IPL does not penetrate past the second layer of your skin, therefore it does not penetrate past your facial tissue or through your oral mucosa or through the jaw bone.  IPL is perfectly safe for individuals with dental implants or any other dental restorations.


IPL treatments are a type of light therapy used to treat wrinkles, spots, and unwanted hair on the face, neck, arms, shoulders, and back.  You will see a minimization or removal of age spots, sun damage, freckles, birthmarks, varicose veins, rosacea, hair on your face, neck, back, chest, arms, legs, underarms, and bikini line.  IPL can also minimize the appearance of rosacea.

Profound RF in combination with laser skin resurfacing is highly recommended.     Profound RF is the first FDA approved device for elastin production.  Elastin is the spring in our skin, accounting for the skin's ability to snap back and not sag.   Profound RF, via a single 1 hr treatment, will tighten sagging skin on the cheeks, lower face and neck.   Laser skin resurfacing stimulates collagen production, helping to improve skin texture and fine lines.   Lasers however do not promote elastin production.  I recommend scheduling a consultation with a qualified physician who has expertise in Profound RF/Laser skin resurfacing.

Thank you for your question. Looking at your photos and description of your skin, I would recommend a combination of treatment modalities. For the sunspots, IPL is wonderful in reversing sunspots and evening out your skin tone, by targeting dark brown and red pigments in your skin and causing them to breakdown.  It involves little to no downtime. The Frax 1550 laser would be a very good complement to the IPL treatment, Frax works synergistically with the IPL to help improve the texture of your skin as well as fine lines or acne/acne scarring that you may have. The Frax 1550 is a Non-ablative fractional treatment for textural improvement via skin resurfacing. Another option is the VI-peel which is a chemical peel that helps reverse sun damage, brightens the skin tone and refines pores as well. The combination of these 3 treatments would yield you great results.

Great question. An excellent new treatment that we do offer at our office is the ProfoundRF treatment. ProfoundRF is the only FDA approved device that can stimulate the production of elastin as well as collagen and hyaluronic acid. Radiofrequency is delivered through microneedles under the skin. It is a one time, 1-2 hour procedure, done in the office that has minimal downtime. It not only helps tighten the skin, but helps reduce the appearance of cellulite and reduction of pinch-able fat in the area.

The treatment we use at our practice for gaining elasticity and plumpness back in you cheeks is the ProfoundRF treatment by Candela Medical. It is the only FDA approved technology that can stimulate the production of Elastin. Elastin is a key protein and is vital to creating tighter an plumber skin. ProfoundRF also helps the body to stimulate the release of collagen and hyaluronic acid as well. It is a one time treatment and is said to on average give patients a results equivalent to 37% of an actual face-lift. How it works is through needles, that emit radiofrequency under the skin at approximately 68 degrees celsius for 4 seconds, through a series of insertions. Local numbing cream is used in the area and a treatment lasts up to 1-2 hours. Downtime is approximately 3-5 days. The ProfoundRF not only helps plump and tighten the skin but also helps minimize the jowl area and double chin areas giving the patient a more defined and contoured jawline.
