Yes, it is posible. It has advantages and disadvantages like everything. I prefer to operate under the effects of general anesthesia, the patient is totally sleep and in my opinion is more comfortable for both (doctor and patient). However, it can increase costs a bit and has the disadvantage that the patient must spend a little more time in the clinic or hospital. On the other hand, sedation and local anesthesia produce a faster recovery in the immediate postoperative period and the patient can go home earlier. In my opinion, the disadvantage is that, depending on the depth of the sedation, the patient can move during the surgery (if it is very superficial) or it may be necessary to intubate (if it is too deep). It is a more demanding type of anesthesia for the anesthesiologist.
