I am beyond grateful for the exceptional care I received from Dr. Katzen and his entire team. After years of researching and a year-long communication with his office, I chose Dr. Katzen for my surgery, and it was the best decision I could have made. His bedside manner is unparalleled; he was always available to answer my questions and ensured I felt comfortable throughout the process. The initial 10-day recovery near his office was seamless, thanks to the amazing nursing team they recommended. Even after returning home to Las Vegas, they checked on me daily, and at 8 weeks post-op, Dr. Katzen personally removed the last of my drains. The results are outstanding—my scar is minimal, and I feel amazing. Since having the silicone removed, I’ve experienced increased mood, clarity, and no more fatigue; the numbness in my leg has also disappeared. I chose to do the open technique and I added mid section lipo. I am 100% confident I made the right choice with Dr. Katzen and his team. Thank you so much, Dr. Katzen!
Dr Katzen and his staff are amazing! From my first consult through all of my post surgery appointments, everyone was incredibly kind. Dr Katzen is truly amazing at what he does, and genuinely cares about his patients. He gave me a great tummy tuck after I had lost almost 100lbs, and I am very happy with my results. When I had a minor complication, he and his lovely staff were incredible, and regularly followed up with me to make sure everything was ok. I moved out of state and he and his staff still called and emailed frequently to check on my recovery. I can’t thank him and his staff enough for their care! If you decide to go with Dr Katzen for your procedure, you won’t regret it!
I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to have found this doctor for my plastic surgery after losing 178 pounds. Not only do I look phenomenal, but the process was more less daunting than I anticipated. The doctor is always available and his team is super responsive. I researched plastic surgeons and it paid off. I got the best and I hope if you’re considering any plastic surgery you visit Dr Katzen‘s website. He’s not only extremely knowledgeable, but with such a tremendous bedside manner and his team reflect his leadership. I had a 360 lower body lift and a crescent, high lift and an arm lift And he schedule them all for me so I could leave for home the UK soon sooner than I thought. Feel super fortunate to have found him and I know you will too.
I had surgery with Dr. Katzen in November. It’s about to be three months. I could not be happier. Dr Katzen and his staff are godsent. I had biopolymers for 14 years with significant migration to the groin and down the legs. Dr Katzen removed 92% of the product. In my case, 95% of it was in the fatty tissue. I no longer have any symptoms. No itching, no warmth in the area, no discomfort when sitting or wearing certain clothes. I stayed in LA for three weeks although he requires 10 days. I wanted to be there until at least two of the drains were removed, but you are safe going home with them. When the drain output is low enough at home, Dr. K will be on Facetime with you instructing you(family member) on how to take them out. I had 4 drains in total, one in each buttock and one in each leg. The day before flying home, we were able to have the two on the left side taken out. I didn’t stay at an aftercare, they said it wasn’t necessary for this procedure. I took my husband and my parents with me and even them three were hands full. You will need at least one person with you all the time. You will have a bladder catherer, you will have drains for 3+ weeks, you will generally be facing down the whole time for around 4 weeks, at around 2 weeks he will tell you that you can start going on your sides a little bit. You won’t be allowed to shower until drains are removed and incisions are fully closed, in my case a month. But all of this will be worth it because you will have healthy glutes, healthy body overall and healthy mind. Your immune system will thank you. If you need to get this surgery done, Dr Katzen is your best choice, he has more than 15 years experience doing this procedure. After surgery, he and his staff will be a phone call away the whole time.
Dr. Katzen really cares about his patient's wellbeing and really does the best he can to give you the best results possible. His whole team is amazing and so sweet and are always there to answer any questions you may have (pre/post-surgery). Dr. Katzen is truly present (and does the best he can to break down procedures so you can understand) with his patents and is also so helpful post-surgery on how to properly clean the wounds etc. I am post-op almost 2 months and I am healing amazing and are guided by a whole team (POP RECOVERY) who is supporting me in so many ways (mental health, wound specialist, recovery coach, nutritionist, etc.). I Love Dr. Katzen and are so greatful I found his talent; this man truly changes lives.
I had a gender affirming surgery with Dr Katzen in November 2023, a year later & I’m still so happy with my results. Dr. Katzen helped talk me through & understand the different procedures I could have done to have my breasts removed & have a flat & more masculine chest. Dr Katzen & his staff are all so kind & very professional. They always made me feel welcome & took great care of me. My life has changed drastically since my visit, Dr. Katzen’s work has made me feel more confident & the most me I’ve ever felt. I would highly recommend Dr. Katzen
If you are here because a doctor in Miami promised you a larger penis and scrotum size with a “secret formula” then let me tell you about my journey: what this formula ended up being was silicone, which is not FDA approved. Not only the procedure was painful but also expensive; after 12+ months of after care, it became just an array of infections and complications. Some days I could barely walk because of the swelling. The scrotum would swell the size of a melon and it would be impossible sometimes to even put on pants without immense embarrassment. Two years of this ordeal that affected my work, every day life, and relationship (intimacy was almost non-existent). After coming back to the original doctor to get it fixed, the approach by him was the same: prescribe strong antibiotics and corticosteroids which would work for the time I was taking them and after they ran its course, it would go back to the same repetition of infection and discomfort. Knowing he wouldn’t be able to fix the mess he made, I started to look for doctors that could fix this. Then I found Dr Katzen’s video on YouTube where he removes silicone from a patient penis. I still did a consult with the other two doctors but Dr Katzen standout immediately. I have worked in healthcare for 13 years and his approach, bedside manners, and sincere concern was outstanding. He listened, he was clear about his plan to fix it, about the post-care, there was no doubt after my consult that he was legitimate. Not only is he more than qualified, I wanted transparency and this is what I found in him. This was not an alone effort either, the staff at his office is so remarkable I could write a different review about them. Thank you Anna, Jessica, and Ariel. You treated me like a human being, you were also caring, helped us to get all the paperwork together, worked with our schedules since I am in the East coast, even when we returned home, they checked if we had made it home ok. That is going the extra mile, and I will forever be thankful for making me feel human again after I thought my situation was a lost cause.
Hey ladies, So I came to Dr. Katzen to have silicone removed from my butt. So I had silicon injections 17yrs ago. In 2018 I had some removed by Dr. Mir in ny. However he left a lot behind at least that’s what I thought. Saw Dr Katzen in a virtual consultation in 2021 and then again in 2023. Reviewed the MIR with me and went through what I would need and how long the procedure would take. So finally in 2024 I had the money to do the procedure. I must say I was excited and nervous at the same time. I was tired of all the symptoms I was experiencing from the silicone. Such as anxiety, fatigue, enlarged thyroid, trouble sleeping, aching joints etc. Just overall not feeling healthy. They gave me a list of things to purchase most things my nurse brought with her automatically. Yes ladies I hired a nurse. From my experience after this procedure you will need help and it’s best to hire professional help. My nurse cost me $5000 for around the clock care. Such as making sure I’m taking all my medications. Making me 3 meals a day, checking my vitals etc. So I flew in from NC to Los Angeles. And stayed in a Airbnb for 14 days. Dr Katzen required you stay local for 10 days minimum. So surgery day was Wednesday 10/30 at 6am. We went through taking pictures and pretty much everything we had already discussed at preop the day before. Once pictures was done I layed in the bed. They got my iv going and next thing I know I was sleep. I woke up and the procedure was done. I was not in pain at all. Transportation services were required. So ambulance picked me up and transported me to my Airbnb. The traffic was terrible. We left the surgery center around 5pm and didn’t get there until 6:30p. I was sleeping the entire way. Once home my had everything set up for me. Checked my vitals etc. Made sure I took all my medications. By day 6 it was it was time for me too go to the doctor for my postop visit. He checked my drain log and determine that we needed to leave the drains in explained how important it was for me to drink a gallon of water a day. also to drink 3 to 4 protein shakes per day. He told me that it was mostly scar tissue and the last doctor got most of the silicone. My main concern with my butt was the hardness and other health issues it was causing. I’m hoping that the discoloration completely goes away. He said that he cut most of the discoloration off so what time it should go away. He said that we have to give it at least six months. Once I hit one month postop, I’ll post a picture and keep you ladies updated so far. This was a five star experience and I would highly recommend Dr.Katzen. Also, I almost forgot these are the symptoms that have since improved. I no longer have anxiety. My skin is so much softer, my joints don’t hurt anymore. And I’m not as irritable. I overall feel way better. Dr. Katzen stated the thyroid takes about six months to go back to normal size. Also, my lymph nodes used to feel painful now they are no longer painful.
Dr. Katzen is one of the best doctors I’ve ever been to! He took such great care of me, was patient, answered all my questions, took my calls no matter how busy he was, and his work is amazing! He gave me follow up care for months after my surgery until he cleared me. I would recommended him with every fiber of my being!
I had an amazing experience with this doctor. Not only was he extremely nice you can tell he cares about his patients well being and will make sure to answer any questions you might have. I am 5 months post opp from Lipo and am very happy with my results. I am really thankful to Dr. Timothy Katzen and his team for being so attentive throughout my whole recovery.
Thank you for your question regarding the pros and cons of combining liposuction with an arm lift. In my experience, I often perform liposuction during arm lift (brachioplasty) procedures—specifically in the area where the excess skin is being removed. I believe this approach helps create the most contoured and refined result, especially in patients who have both excess skin and stubborn fat along the upper arms. Liposuction allows me to sculpt the arm more precisely and enhance the definition and balance of the final outcome. However, not every patient needs liposuction. If someone has very little fat and their primary concern is excess skin, then I typically do not include liposuction. In those cases, adding liposuction may increase swelling and prolong healing without offering any real benefit. It’s important to assess each patient individually. The amount of fat, skin quality, and desired goals all influence whether combining the two procedures is the right approach. If you're considering an arm lift, I recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience with both standalone and combination approaches. The best plan is always one that’s tailored to your body and your goals. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
Thank you for your detailed question regarding extended brachioplasty and your understandable concern about suture rejection. It sounds like you had a difficult experience with spitting sutures after your previous procedure, and you're now wisely looking into alternatives that might minimize complications, especially given your history of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in the axillary region. Yes, it is technically possible to perform an extended brachioplasty without the use of dissolvable (absorbable) sutures, but some form of closure—either internal or external—is necessary. Most plastic surgeons use absorbable sutures internally to minimize external scarring, reduce the need for suture removal, and maintain long-term strength as the tissue heals. However, in patients with known sensitivity or a history of foreign body reaction (like yours), modifications can be made. Instead of deep dissolvable sutures, your surgeon might use fewer layers or switch to non-absorbable sutures for closure, which can then be removed postoperatively. This reduces the risk of suture spitting but does require careful monitoring and often more frequent visits for removal. Tissue glue (like Dermabond) and surgical tape (such as Steri-Strips) can be used on the outermost layer, but they aren’t strong enough to hold the incision together on their own, especially for an extended brachioplasty where tension is higher. These methods are generally considered supplements rather than stand-alone closures. Plastic skin closure clips (the ones you mentioned but couldn’t name) may refer to devices like ZipLine, Insorb, or Proximate skin closure systems. These can sometimes reduce external trauma and help manage healing without traditional external sutures or staples, but they still require a strong internal closure beneath. If you are prone to infection, suture rejection, or have active HS, your surgical plan needs to be highly customized. I would strongly advise consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in complex wound management and familiar with HS. Bring up your previous experience in detail during consultation, and ask about custom closure techniques such as layered interrupted sutures with low-reactivity materials, minimal use of foreign bodies, or staged wound closure if needed. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
Thank you for your question regarding whether a mini arm lift can improve the appearance of stretch marks on your upper arms. Stretch marks are a common concern after weight gain and weight loss, and many patients wonder if skin removal procedures like arm lifts can help minimize them. The key factor here is the location of the stretch marks. A mini arm lift typically addresses a limited amount of skin laxity, usually in the upper inner arm near the armpit. If your stretch marks are confined to this area and the loose skin containing them can be excised, then yes—a mini arm lift could improve their appearance by physically removing some of the affected skin. However, if your stretch marks extend further down toward the elbow or span a broader area, a mini lift may not be sufficient. In those cases, a full arm lift (brachioplasty) might be needed to address more extensive stretch marks and loose skin. It’s also important to note that arm lifts do not treat the texture or color of remaining stretch marks. So, while removing some of them is possible, those left behind will remain unless addressed with treatments like microneedling, laser therapy, or topical options. I recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has significant experience in post-weight loss procedures. They can evaluate your skin quality and the distribution of stretch marks to determine whether a mini or full arm lift would be most appropriate. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
Thank you for your question regarding a mini arm lift limited to the lower portion of the upper arms, just above the elbow. Based on your description and photos, it does appear that your skin laxity is isolated to the lower inner arm, which is a relatively uncommon but treatable pattern—especially in post-weight loss patients. Yes, it is possible to perform a mini arm lift or a modified short-scar brachioplasty in this area, but it’s important to understand that the incision typically needs to extend slightly beyond the exact area of loose skin. The reason is that the incision must be tapered in both directions to prevent puckering or dog-ears at the ends. Even if the skin laxity seems localized, the surrounding tissue has to be carefully blended for a smooth, natural contour. In your case, this might mean an incision that spans several inches above the elbow and tapers slightly upward, even if the majority of the correction is focused in the lowest portion of the upper arm. The resulting scar is generally well-concealed along the inner arm and fades over time in most patients. If you’re looking for the least invasive approach with the shortest scar possible, be sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in body contouring after weight loss. They can assess your skin quality and elasticity in person and help determine if a mini arm lift would give you a natural, long-lasting result without the need for a full brachioplasty. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
Thank you for your question regarding whether insurance can help cover an upper or lower body lift after significant weight loss. First, I want to acknowledge how hard it is to lose over 100 pounds—this is a huge achievement, especially at 18. I'm sorry to hear how much the loose skin is affecting your self-esteem and quality of life. You're not alone, and there are paths forward. While most cosmetic procedures like a body lift are not covered by insurance, there are exceptions—but they require very specific documentation. Insurance companies may consider covering a panniculectomy (removal of the overhanging abdominal skin) if you can show that the excess skin causes chronic rashes, infections, or wounds that require repeated treatment. These must be documented by your primary care provider or dermatologist, ideally over several months. Photographs, prescription history, and visit notes all help build a strong case. Unfortunately, upper body lifts, arm lifts, and thigh lifts are almost never covered unless they can be tied to ongoing skin breakdown or functional impairment. Even then, approval is extremely rare. There are no true "loopholes," but persistence, medical necessity, and prior authorization letters from a board-certified plastic surgeon can improve your chances. Look for a surgeon who works with insurance and is willing to submit documentation for pre-authorization. Be sure to ask if they’ve had success with your specific insurance plan. As for financing, if you were denied CareCredit, there are other lenders like Alphaeon Credit, United Medical Credit, or local credit unions that might offer medical loans. Some patients also explore medical tourism, but if you go that route, be cautious and thoroughly research the surgeon’s credentials, facility accreditation, and aftercare plan. Lastly, don’t give up. Continue advocating for yourself and meet with plastic surgeons who specialize in post-weight loss patients. Many offer free consultations and can guide you through the steps to seek insurance coverage, if applicable. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
