I had a large chin implant 3 months ago and am not satisfied with its appearance. I also recently learned it can lead to bone loss if the implant is too large. If I remove the implant soon, for example, 6 months after surgery, will my chin return to normal or will the shape be different? also would the skin sag if I returned by 6 months?
I'm considering a chin implant. One of the risks I'm scared of is bone loss (I have heard this is reduced it the implant is screwed to the bone, do you agree?). One thing that is complicating things for me is that I am considering getting braces. If I got braces after the chin implant, would the braces moving bone cause the bone to rub against the implant and cause bone loss? Or it doesn't matter?
I have lost quite a bit of bone and fat, specially on the lower face, and temporal area , I had a quite broad face and a prominent jawline, but s a result of the bone and fat loss the lower face looks quite thin and droopy. Can a three piece implant (chin, jawline and gonial angel ) or a custom one piece wrap around jaw implant would achieve results that I want? I am looking to treat the side of the forehead beyond the hairline posterior temporal region.
Do you monitor your chin implant patients over the years and decades? Do you recommend that they have x-rays to check for bone erosion and tooth or nerve damage? A surgeon told me that this damage would be a risk for me since I need a large chin implant. He recommended a sliding genioplasty instead.
10 years ago when surgeon placed a chin implant (silicon) right away it seemed weak. Recently another surgeon removed old and he saw that I have extreme bone loss. He put a new implant in and profile still appear weak. First, is the bone loss was due to an implant? Will the bone loss continue and what are my options ? Any other side deseases I should be concerned about or body areas? Do I need a jaw reconstruction? I hope I can stay with this implant for good. Please share your opinion and what to expect.
I had a small chin implant replaced with a bigger one about 8 years ago and the surgeon told me I had bone loss because of the extended wings of the implant. Now with the new one, I have to keep getting Radiesse injections every year to fill out depressions on each side of my chin and make my jawline smooth and attractive. Can I safely avoid injections with a new extended chin implant? Or is bone loss still likely? Also, what's the expected recovery time for any procedures? Thanks!
Concerns on implants: Dr. Verret: ANY implant will show some resorption of the bottom jaw bone over time Dr. Nassif A small layer of bone fades away Dr. Schlesinger on dangers - ..erosion of the mandible Dr. Zubowicz: Silicone implants can cause bony resorption and even tooth pain in occasional patients. I have seen a chin implant dissolving so much bone that it came to rest against the tooth roots. Medpor - there is no formal pressure .. on the bone & resorption does not occur.
I'm interested in getting custom made jaw and chin implants but I am worried that there might be constant maintenance involved. I'm scared that they might continually need to be replaced periodically because of implant shifting and getting larger one placed due to bone resorption. Has there ever been any cases of significant bone resorption in facial implants? Has this problem been solved with the advent of today's custom made ones or does bone resorption still occur with custom made implants?
