Australian Burn Victim Becomes the Most Inspirational Cover Girl Ever

Tired of seeing models and actresses taking over the newsstand? Well, an Aussie magazine is shaking things up in a way that’s never been done before. Instead of reaching for the hottest young starlet with something to promote, Australian Women’s Weekly had the extraordinary idea to put a burn victim on the cover of their latest issue.
The woman featured is Turia Pitt, a model-turned-engineer who was caught in a brushfire while competing in an ultramarathon in 2011. Suffering burns on 64% of her body, Turia was initially given just the slimmest chance of survival.
What makes her story so inspiring is more than the fact that she’s defied medical expectations. The 26-year-old has since gone on to use her story to bring hope and courage to others, becoming a best-selling author and a motivational speaker. In the last six months alone, Turia's ridden a bicycle over 1,700 miles, swam in a 20-kilometer race, and walked the Great Wall of China — all to raise money for the reconstructive surgery charity, Interplast. It’s easy to see why Women’s Weekly chose her for the cover, calling her “the most impressive woman you’ll ever hope to meet.”
“I feel very humbled,” Turia said of being featured on the magazine. “For me, it sends the message that confidence equals beauty. There are a lot of women out there who are so beautiful but don’t have the confidence, and that's what gets you over the line.”
Inside the issue, Turia opens up about the last three years of her life, from surviving the bushfire that almost killed her to the remarkable love of her partner, Michael. “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world,” she reveals.
News of the cover hit the internet just a few days ago, but the magazine’s already garnered widespread praise. "@WomensWeeklyMag July issues shows that #beauty is crafted from #courage," commented WordStormPR. "Other publications should take note."
All we have to say is, amen to that!
