TONE UP YOUR ARMS WITH ARM LIFT SURGERY (BRACHIOPLASTY)

by

Time, genetics, gravity and the environment takes a toll on every aspect of our bodies. The upper arms are not immune to these effects. As a result, the upper arm skin may become loose and saggy. Having excess hanging skin on the upper arms can make some people self conscious. Because of their embarrassment, some individuals may try to hid their arms by wearing loose fitting long sleeved shirts. Fortunately, there is a plastic surgery procedure call a brachioplasty or arm lift to improve the contour of the arms.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, so you are totally asleep during the entire process. During the arm lift surgery incisions are make on the inner aspect of the upper arms. The incisions generally extends from the armpit to the elbow and encompasses the excess skin and underlying fat. After the loose skin is removed, the edges of the incisions are closed with absorbable sutures. Typically, drains are not required.

To aid in recovery, a compression garment or an ace wrap is used around the upper arms. This will help in shaping and swelling after surgery. If working, patients can return to work in about a week for a desk job, and 2-3 weeks if the work requires a lot more physical activities. Light exercise can resume in about 2-3 weeks, as well. More strenuous activities can start around 4 weeks.

Arm lift surgery or Brachioplasty is a great solution if you feel self-conscious about showing your arms in public. When you’re ready to take the next step, give North Coast Plastic Surgery a call at (760) 655-1414 to schedule your appointment and find out if you are a candidate for surgery.
