Do I need to stay overnight in the hospital after an Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)?

Many of our patients are able to have an abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, on an out-patient basis. This allows them to recover in the comfort of their own home. Patients can elect to have Exparel which is a 72-hour anesthetic agent that helps reduce the level of discomfort and results in the need for less pain medication.

Patients often find that they receive better attention, help, and care when they can designate a significant other, family member or friend to take care of them at home. Patients who do not have someone to assist them often call Reliable Recovery, who can provide a medically trained caretaker to assist them with travel, walking, and routine post-operative activities in the privacy of the patient’s own home.

Patients who are not sedentary in a hospital bed have a lower risk of pulmonary embolism and hospital acquired infections. They experience less post-surgical nausea with oral pain medication and muscle relaxers versus IV medication often administered in the hospital and don’t have to wait for medication from hospital staff who have other patients.
