Is there anything nonsurgical I can do to get rid of my double chin?

by

A common concern for many women and men of all ages is a double chin, or 'submental fullness.' It is often an inherited feature, or can be a result of weight gain or noticed more as we age. Either way, a double chin is generally fat and can often make someone look heavier, or even older. Many patients ask about this area, and for those who are not necessarily candidates for a surgical approach, such as liposuction or a facelift, may benefit.

Recently introduced, Kybella, is the first and only FDA approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of double chin fullness by dissolving submental fat. Kybella is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. The short, in-office procedure is an injection right into the chin fat which ultimately causes the destruction of fat cells so they lose their fat and volume. Once destroyed, those cells can no longer store, or accumulate fat, in other words, it's gone! Many patients experience visible results with 2 - 4 treatments spaced at least a month apart and once their cosmetic response is achieved, re-treatment is not required.

In clinical trials 1600 patients have been treated with Kybella, and 79% of patients in the clinical trials reported satisfaction with the appearance of their face and chin. Side effects were mild to moderate and resolved without intervention. We are excited to introduce this safe and effective injectable option to addressing the "double chin".
